Francine's bottom lip will off and on get puffy. Sometimes it's just the lip and sometimes her chin is swelled along with it too. It's painful for her when her chin is involved.

Today I noticed it puffy again along with her chin

The other month she had the lip and chin swelling and I took her to the vet, it was x-rayed and was ok. The vet gave her a anti inflammatory shot and that cleared it up in a few days.

Looks like she may have to go back to the vet

Also, when it's just her lip, it doesn't seem to pain her and goes away on it's own after a few days.

Anyone have any ideas or similar situation with their cat?

I used to have a cat that did that and it turned out she was allergic to her plastic bowls, or the bacteris they harbor...I've long since switched to glass....could it be that?

Hi Shannon, Thanks!
But we have ceramic bowls. And when she has wet food it's on paper plates.

Good suggestion though.

Sounds like it could be eosinophilic granuloma complex - something I've seen twice in two of my kitties (now passed on). If this hasn't yet been mentioned by your vet as a possible diagnosis, I'd ask when you take your kitty in.

Thanks Pat. I googled eosinophilic granuloma complex and it sounds like that could be what it is.

Oddly enough her lip is just about back to normal today
Strange.
Do you think it may be a food allergy being as I don't feed her out of plastic bowls?
She really doesn't eat wet food, just a few bites here and there, but she does love the dry food. I've been using Purina One Chicken.

What in there could be causing an allergy if indeed it is from her food?
I'll be going to Petco tomorrow and get a different kind, but can't afford anything majorly pricey...I can probably go up to 9 dollars for a 3 -4 lb. bag.

What should I be on the lookout for that may cause allergic reactions?

This site http://www.crvetcenter.com/foodallergy.htm goes over hypoallergenic carbs for cats and dogs, it's short and worth a quick read.

Non-Prescription foods to consider trying would be Natural Balance Green Pea and Venison, either of the two cat formulas by Addiction, evangers has a wild game canned - labeled for dogs it has nothing in it but the particular game..so supplemented appropriately, it can be used (imo) and this gives you access to an unusual protein such as Pheasant and others.

Not usually, but I had to take her to the vet for it I think it was in September, because it was very painful for her, poor girl I accidentally touched her chin getting her out of the carrier at the vet and she let out a big hiss.

I am so relieved her mouth looked back to normal yesterday. Will have a look at it this morning when she wakes up.

One of my cats has this. He also has juvenile stomatitis so severe that he had his first gum surgery at 9 months old. As far as I can tell, the two are related. The swelling always goes away in a few days and he doesn't seem bothered by it.
