there are three docs at the vet I chose. I have now seen all three within a two week period, the first gave Abi a clean bill of health. The second finally found ear mites when i insisted he keep looking ( she was scratching her ear and shaking her head) , The third said its now a bacterial infection, cleaned out all the guk and put her on a new medication.

So has this kitten just had a run of really bad luck (my husband calls her a lemon) or should I go looking for another vet practice? ( I liked the manner of all three vets and the entire atmosphere but that doesn't mean they are top vets)

this is all very new to me and I am not sure how to assess a vet. when she has her hysterectomy I want top notch care for this lil babe.

She certainly could have both mites and an ear infection...not sure how vet number one missed the mites though. I wouldn't give up on the practice

HI. The best advice I can give you is to go with your instinct on the vets.

You can check out the web site of the American Association of Feline Practioners and it can hopefully provide you with a list of Vets in your area that specialize in Feline Medicine or are members of the association: http://www.aafponline.org/

Hope this helps!

Infections are often secondary to ear mites, so it is possible the cat did have mites, then an infection. I'm guessing the first vet just forgot to check kitty's ears the first visit. It's frustrating, I know...

I found my stray about 5 months ago and just now noticed mites. I figured that's the first thing the vet would've looked for... but I know he must've had them all along because my other cat never had mites, they're both strictly indoor cats and have never been around other dogs / cats. Now, of course, BOTH cats have mites... ARG!!!! I just treated with Acarexx so hopefully this works well. Anyways, my vet is normally GREAT and I totally trust him. I think this was just a human error. We all make em! If you like the practice, don't give up yet... especially on the 2nd or 3rd doc.
