I have 4 new kittens about 4 weeks old. I was wanting to know when a good time is to let them out of the nesting area and wander the rest of the house.
Right now they are in my closet with a wall so that mom can get out but the little ones.

I would give them access to a room - They are old enough now to roam around a little. I wouldn't give them full access to the house until they are at least 8 weeks old or even a little older.

Mum will let them know if they have wandered too far!

Thank you so very much. That I will do. I can close my door and then let them wander in the room. But if I leave my door open will mom keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get to far away??

At 4 weeks you can let them wander around as long as you don't have anyone in the house who might hurt them. I let my 4-week-old fosters have free run of the house if they don't have their mom with them, and they've never had a problem.

The older they get, the more they roam and explore. They are just getting ready to be litter trained at 4 weeks, and you may want to restrict them to your bedroom for most of the time until that is finished. Also, they will learn that your room is "home base", and will come back to it as a safe area even when they get older.

They grow up so quick. Pretty soon you will have kittens on the table, kittens under the couch, kittens in the trash. They are so lively, and become such stinkers! But it is a joy to watch them grow, isn't it?!?
