Hi.

Does anyone have experience with the Radiocat clinics? They're a center that deals only with I-131 treatment for cats (www.radiocat.com). There's one not too far from me, and we're going to start looking at radiation treatment for PJ some time in the future. I figured while I'm procrastinating from doing some work (!) I'd start looking into the treatment.

Thanks!

You may want to join the Yahoo Group for Feline HyperT. There are members there who have experience with clinics all over the world as well as the US.

My friends had this done for their cat. The cat was about 10 at the time and in the very, very early stages of hyperthyroidism so they decided to go ahead with the radioactive iodine treatment since it would mean the cat would be totally normal from then on, instead of facing 5-10 years of daily meds. They were totally happy with it and their cat is doing great now.

I know the original post is 10 years old, but I'd like to add my input anyways as it may help others.  Billie went in for treatment on 1/13/15, and came out three days later a happy, healthy cat.  Being separated for the 3 days was the worst part.  Billie is only 14, and fairly feisty, so looking at pilling her for the next 6 plus years was not a happy thought.  This seemed like a great solution, especially since ASPCA Pet health insurance said the treatment would be covered.  Since then, however,  they denied coverage as the invoice was dated the same date as her plan renewal.  They will cover the days of 1/13 and 1/14, but not 1/15, and said I could appeal if I could provide a detailed invoice.  Radiocat won't do this, and suggested that I submit a general description of what the treatment cost covers.  Big bummer for me, cuz I've been paying for the plan for a couple of years, and the reimbursement would be 90%.
