I was watching a documentary on TV the other day about the healing power of pets. It turns out the frequency of a cat's purr is the same as the frequency of the ultrasounds they use to help heal bone/tissue/muscle damage during physiotherapy! They did a study with one cat who was owned by a cancer patient who said that whenever he started feeling sharp pain, his cat would sit on wherever it hurt and start purring! This makes me glad that my little Hester likes to sit on my chest and neck and purr, especially since I have a cold right now!

On top of that, I think having pets is very relaxing and healing, simply just to have them around. I know I find great joy in my kitty and my puppy, and even my pet mice. Hurray for pets!

We all knew that there was something magical about a cat's purr!

I love how they can train dogs to detect cancer. You've heard the stories of how dogs have pointed out tumors to their humans?

Years ago, I had heard that Chinese healers used purr therapy as a primitive ultrasound, so I taught my cat to lay on my kidneys and purr. It worked wonders and I have used it ever since. And after I injured my neck (bulging disks C5-7), i have found that the most effective pain reliever is a small kitten lying on the base of my neck, purring - once they get to be about 4 months, they are too heavy, although more than willing to do the job. I would love to see that documentary - anything that lets the world know the true value of cats is a big hit with me!

I had a shoulder which had painfully knotted up. My massage therapist worked on it for a couple of weeks and I was still in agony. One night I was laying on my stomach and Carly sat on these muscles, her little paws pressing just into the right muscles. She didn't even do any kneading. Just used her weight to press on the muscles. Then she stretched out down my back, laying there warmly purring for about a half hour. When she got up, all of my pain was gone.

Now I wish I could have her do it more often.

Mouse, my kneader, used to knead the small of my back for me - it felt so good! she never did it long enough to please me, but i enjoyed it!

Captain and Kanoe sat with me all day when I had a migraine... I have trouble with noise and light when I'm hit with one of those, but their purrs were the most beautiful thing in the world at that point. Even Toulouse, even though he wanted to pounce me instead of cuddle.
