This image thing is making me mad. 30 KB's is really small, and noone wants to see a small picture. Can't you all raise that to atleast 45 -50 KB? Or else I'm not posting Jinx. Sorry for acting rude.

I am far from the world's expert on picture sizing, but all of the banner signatures you see are under the 30 Kb limit. It's a matter of learning how.

The difference may not seem alot to anyone with the high-speed connections but a large number of people still use dial-up and we need to be cognizant of their band-width limitation.

You can reduce the JPEG quality which will allow the larger pictures with smaller file sizes but less detail in the resolution. I have not had a problem with this.

Tyler, in view of the fact that many members have dial-up service, 30 KBs is quite reasonable, although you may have to choose between animated gifs and "still pictures". Do you have good resizing software? My current "banner" (made by Hope Hacker), as well as these two attempts by me are below 30 KB, and certainly aren't "too small".

but if there weren't size restrictions on signatures, those would take you forever, too, Sam - especially because they're on every forum. you wouldn't be able to avoid them like you can FurPictures.

Exactly and there is a size restriction in Fur Pictures as well, the only problem is, no one appears to adhere to it.

I do find it hard to keep sigs under 30kb but not impossible (and although I think I can tell the difference between the same sig at 27kb and 34kb everyone else thinks I am crazy
). It just takes a little getting used to tweaking to make sure you stay under it (and of course there is lots of image software that allows for file compression - simply saving in paint after using a more intensive program often works).

And I hate scrolling and the old computer we had at work only had 800x600 as its largest resolution so I agree with the staying small on fur pictures.

Well...you could always get one of those BIG magnifying glasses....then they`d look way bigger to you if you`re having a hard time seeing them. :-)
Also, someone on here said that at Photobucket there is a place where you can create thumbnail pics that can be clicked on to enlarge them as you view each one.

It automatically creates a thumbnail of each pic you upload - you just right click and click properties and post the URL from there rather than the URL posted below the pic.

Time for the "siggy police" to monitor Fur Pictures more carefully. Since a lot of mods have time off over the holidays, we can be a bit more vigilant.

Tyler, if you want to send me some photos of Jinx, I would be happy to make you a sig that fits the size rules but still shows Jinx well.

Also there are other forums out there where the sig size limits are much smaller (on actual kb file size and dimensions) - thats why some of my sigs are smaller than the ones on here usually - because they are used elsewhere.

To give you an idea - this is the size for the other forum I go to and the cats' pics on this are still visible clearly

(hope you don't mind me unveiling your sig vanillasugar)
