Greetings to all,
I have had my cat Mavro since he was about 2 months old. He is a little bit over a year now. He has been prety good about using his litter box to urinate, but once in a while he would use one certain bed in the house to pee one. He would only do it once in a while, so we didn't see it as a problem. We just put a litter box in that room, and he would just use the liter box instead, most of the times.

I am not sure if this is related, but we had a few workers come in the house and do some remodeling work for 3 days, and thats when his peeing habits got bad. He still uses his litter box to poop, but about one time a day he will urinate somewhwere else. I took him to vet and had him checked for UTI, and also his blood, and they sayed he was in good health.
Until he stops his habbit, he is limited to one level of the house. I have filled the entire level with about 12 different citrus scented air freshners, and those seemed to work at first, but now he just urinates a few feet away from them. He pees on cloathes, and my room has this window sill that he loves to pee on. If I put an air freshner or orange peels on the spot he peed before, he will just move down to the other side of the ledge a few feet away and pee there.
Today I let him come upstairs with me as I followed him, and he was sniffing our fake christmas tree, then peed behind it. We have two litter boxes for him in the level that he is confined at. They are about 60 feet away from each other, both dont have tops. I have tryed switching his kitty litter to a unscented type, but all I found at Petco was a corn kennel type, that is prety expensive. Any other alternatives?
He isn't neutered yet, I set an apoitment for him but that isn't for about 2 more weeks. I hope this fixes it, as my family is prety fed up with my cat. We all love him, but we can't him peeing outside the litter box.
Maybe he is trying to tell us that there is something wrong, but I can't imagine what it is...
He stands by the door that leads to the other levels of the house, and he meaows. If we let him go, he will run very quickly and most likely pee somewhere.
After he eats, he does go use his litter box for poop, then walks around and tryes to find a different place to pee. He may come back to the litter box, sniff it for a second, and walk away back to trying to find a place in the house to pee. Please help me..Thanks
JP

Thanks for your response. I have read that post, that is where I got most of the ideas for the things I tryed. And Mavro is a male.
.
I will try out that cleaner, but the I am not sure if that will solve his urinating problem, as he doesn't have one location that he likes to urinate at. If we try to stop him from peeing at one spot, he will just urinate somewhere else. I will try that though.

Jimmy-

Did they do a needle draw of urine from the bladder? If not, I would take him back and ask them to test his urine that way. He really sounds like he is ill and not that he is exhibiting behavior problems because of the mulitple places he is going.

Good luck- these spraying problems can be maddening!

I am unsure how they drew the urine. On the invoice, it says Urine Sample Collect/Prep (Cystocent). I can call and ask them. Is there a difference in tests in the way they collect the urine? thanks

So far you have a clean bill of health from your vet for this cat. The big problem I see, is that you have a male cat who is a little over one year old, who is not yet neutered.
Most "whole" males will pee and mark all over your home. The workers you had at your place probably upset his delicate balance and he feels the need to mark his territory profusely.
Since your vet has already cleared him of a health issue, get him neutered right away, clean the spots he pee'd in extremely well and hope that he settles down.
Keep in mind that even after his neutering, he'll still have a lot of those hormones in his system for awhile. Buy some Feli-way diffusers to help calm him.

Yeah a cystocentesis is when they draw the urine w/ a needle by sticking it through the kits abdomen and suck it straight out of the bladder...This is the most effective way to test for UTI's...I suppose he doesnt hava UTI then....

But like Kai bengals said....Malecats can spray if not neutered, and sometimes they will still spray if they are neutered too late.....

Good luck,

I just thought of something else......

If the neutering thing isnt the problem...Another possibility is bladder worms...It can cause exsessive urination.......Their uncommon, but its another thought

Thanks for the replys, I guess a UTI isn't the culprit here.
The thing is that I dont think it is spraying. I have caught him in the act 3 times doing it, and I am prety sure he was squatting down all the times, meaning he was peeing and not spraying right.
One time I thought my closet smelled a bit funny, but I couldn't see anything. I used the black light in there, and found something which I assumed was cat semen the wall about 3" above the floor. I guess that time he was spraying, but most of the times he is peeing. I know I should have neutered him earlier, but I kept on putting it off. I guess its no ones fault but my own..

Its never too late to get your cat neutered...Plus you might eliminate this peeing problem...On top of which your cat may avoid super awful health problems in the future.........

Also...cat urine shows up under a cat light tooo...
