My cat was spayed yesterday, and when I went to pick her up I never noticed any bruisng. However last night before I went to bed I noticed a brusie on her tummy. And it does not seem to be getting any worse. She is drinking and eating and resting alot, but I think the resting is because of such a big day yesterday. She is not lethargic. She does get up and walk around.

My question is this. How common is bruising? And when should I be concerned?

My 3 spayed girls never had bruises after their surgery. Ask your vet about it . Perhaps she accidentally bumped against something while still groggy from the meds.

I little bit is normal but watch so it doesn't ooze or rip open or she doesnt lick or chew at it. There will probably be a little lump there too, just dont let her jump around and play a lot and keep an eye on it.

i didn't notice a bruise on Java, just a bump...Cable has spots all over her belly so i would've had trouble deciding what was a bruise & what wasn't! if it's really worrying you, try calling the vet. that's what i did about the bump, 'cause i thought it was weird...

Bruising is fairly common after surgery of any kind. She just had pretty major abdominal surgery with her skin and muscles cut so a little bruising is definitely not abnormal. As long as it doesn't get worse and she is eating and making steady improvement in her energy level, there is probably no need to worry. But deinitely call your vet if you have questions.
