hi im new on this board and have recently got a ktten.
What he does is he starts screaming and sometimes and showing his teeth.
Somes time he will be climing up me screaming etc.

I cant understand it and want to know if this is a early sign of an unrult cat who will bite etc...
he is 7 weeks old.

Please can i have sometips on how to discipline him and id like to know what he means by the constant crying and bearing hsi teeath by screaming.

please can someone please give me an answer as he doesnt it so often.

Somtimes it when he is doing it i pivk him up and put him on the floot.
As i pick him up he will do it etc and then run back up me and coming towards my face creaming etc...

he is 7 weeks old and im confused into what he is doing.
Is it that he is unhappy? or is it him trying to play etc...

Also he doesnt like being stroked etc...

p.s. how do i tell him not to do ceratin things etc.

he's awfully young to be away from his mother. was he like this at his other home, or is this new behavior just since he came to live with you?

I live in the No. Va area near DC.
Okay, first off this kitten is way too young to be
away from Mom cat. Where did you get him/her from?

(That is what idiot would give away a kitten that young?)

A few pieces of basic information:

At 7 wks this is a BABY. Kittens should not, ideally
leave Mom cat before the age of 9 weeks. Emotionally
and healthwise, being round Mom cat, nursing and
having litter mates to socialize with is important.

Treat him/her as you would
a scared baby. His/her wailing is crying for the Mom cat,
which YOU are now.

He/she is probably quite breft of Mom cat and other
kittens in the litter. YOU have to be a surrogate Mom.

Next, what are you doing for nutrition? This kitten
maybe needing some supplemental wet food, since
his teeth probably are only baby teeth right now...

To stop him climbing you (and why would you
want to stop him is beyond me, unless he's hurting
you?? And he can't be at that age!!). Be patient.
He wants to be up near your face, head... so, pick
him up!!

Lots of entertainment and
handling (play with him hard several
times a day with string, shoelaces, balls of paper,
paper shopping bags (cat fave!!) or other
kitten toys, tire him out and then wrap in a
soft towel when he gets tired out, and
stroke him and talk to him softly...

this will help him get better at being
held. Will reduce him climbing on you,
AND increase his "bond" of trust with you.

However, I warn you he may never be a lap
cat.. My Didi, the coolest cat I've ever
had yet, was alot like
this kitten as you describe it. (Except for wailing).

Diablo grew into a 16 lbs awesome cat, a cool Dude
who was more about being out and about than
being a lap cat. He was VERY bonded to me,
(as in he let me walk him on a leash, in Crystal
City no less!!). But he was emphatically NOT
a love cat.

Now, though the older he gets the more affectionate...now
he purrs and we cuddle and sleep all night together...

He /She will in all likelyhood be a vocal and lively cat
if he/she is showing signs of exploring and
expressing him/herself...

discipline needs to be VERY gentle... other folks on
this board will have better advice - I never really
had to discipline mine... I always let them do as
they wanted ..

Of course, I had to go through a few things - like
garbage fishing .. which I stopped by using behvior
modification NOT punishment.

Punishment does NOT work with cats ...
they are NOT like dogs!! Whatever
you do, please keep that in mind.

And no, they don't "reason" like humans either... so you can't think of
disciplining them in the same way you do children...

Again, others on this board can help you out more
with this, esp. ones who've just had kittens!! Its
been years since I have worked with a kitten...

So, stay patient, and remember your little guy is
expressing emotional needs and fears the only
way he can. He LIKES YOU and YOU are MOM CAT!!

Nothing for you to worry about at this stage...

My 12 week old kitten tried to climb up my leg tonight, which was a little painful even through heavy jeans. I think to the kittens our legs are just like big tree trunks, and they don't realize it is part of us. So they just climb up them to get to "us" which is our lap or our face.

And I think a 7 week old kitten who is crying is probably just hungry. Like Opilot and Laureen said, that is young to be away from his Mom, and he was probably still nursing. When he went to his Mom and cried, she fed him. Now he needs the same from you. Make sure you are feeding a good kitten food, and if he is having trouble chewing it, add some water to soften the food.

You can't really discipline a 7 week old baby, but you can teach him a lot. By making sure to meet his needs, he learns to trust you. Then you pet him and cuddle after his belly is full. So he learns that you bring good things like food. And as he gets older he will love playing with you. He will chase a straw from a drink, or a piece of string. A feather is always a lot of fun to a kitten.

There are ways you can comfort this little one www.snugglekitties.com is one way. Making rice heaters for the kitten to snuggle down with will also help. You can pouch the little one and carry it close to your chest. Also be sure you are feeding you this kitten enough at least 6 times a day small amounts. Sounds to me like he is missing his siblings and mom and just wants his new mom to hang on to him.

There is also a really neat tool you can use for him as well- it is called perfect pets and it is a stuffed cat that actually breathes and has a heartbeat- it is totally cool, I got one the other day and since I do bottle babies, it will come in handy-

www.kitten-rescue.com will also help you find your way with this little one
