We don't get a day off, but we get paid for Sunday, the actual holiday. I am just upset that we don't even get a day off, I have to use my vacation to go home for Christmas!!

I am really really looking for a new job, I just hope that the next place I work for, actually respects their employees!!

Thats terrible Mackenzie
Although the majority of shops over here will be open on the 26th because thats when the big sales start, most people are on holiday.

Time for a new job search in the new year chick!

Even though sometimes I hate my job.. it does have it's perks.

We do have a holiday party. We all go out to a nice restaurant one night.

I also got a $500 bonus.

We get paid holiday -- we close early on Friday and are closed on Saturday. Unfortunately we are open again 8 AM the day after Christmas.

If only the normal pay was better and the hours weren't so long!!!

Last night was our party at the bishop's house. The White Elephant exchange was a scream. I fought and won the biggest of all the boxes and it proved to contain a giant (four feet tall) white teddy bear with a red plaid Christmas bowtie on. LOL I immediately christened him Howdy Do the Christmas Bear and after the party, I drove straight to Research Hospital, where my best friend Karen is fighting cancer, and gave him to her. I bribed the security guards with goodies from the potluck table so they'd let me upstairs since it was 10:15 PM. lmao Howdy Do's first goodwill mission was a success!

i work in a small office so we just go to a fancy restaurant together and sometimes to an event, like a concert or something, but this year some crap happened so we just had dinner. It was nice. My boss also gets me a gift and last year anyhow gave a bonus, like 25% of my pay or something. I don't know what he's doing this year, guess I'll find out on thursday..

My roommate's company took them to Medieval Times for their "Christmas Party." Lame! I told him with the $50 they spent on each ticket, they could have given him a FULL bonus. He's supposed to get a bonus equal to a week's paycheck, but he only got half this year. There's only one guy ahead of him, but he owns 51%.

I didn't go because I knew I couldn't be nice to them--in fact, I'd probably have been quite a
and I don't want work to be even more stressful for him.
I've never worked anywhere that gave a Christmas Party, but I'd love that.

I worked in the town bank. The town I live outside of has 1087 people in it, so the bank was tiny. Every Christmas, I got a bonus & a raise. There were two high school girls who shared the evening & weekend hours(m-th 3:30-5:45, F 3:30-6:15, Sat 8:15-12:15). We were never invited to the Christmas party which was in the "back room". Everyone got really drunk. The bank president & loan officer got really weird when they were drunk. I like these guys, but they were scary to be around when drunk. It's weird when your boss(who's 60+) hits on you when you are 16, 17, or 18.
I loved my job, but from the experience I never want to work in another bank again. It looks wonderful on my resume, but it was sort of weird to work there. I had one customer who liked to complain about me. My hair was offensive, I stole money, I stole checks, I was lying. Now, she lost the missing checks, the missing cash, I never lied, & now the boss's daughter(she's 40+) who is his secretary does her hair the same way I do. The whiner never complains about that. Sometimes, I want to punch her in the face!

The job I have now is awesome! I work for my dad who owns his own construction business. I don't get a bonus, but I do get by pretty easy. All I have to do is answer the phone, relay messages, pay the employees, & make sure to be polite to people calling about buying a building!
This job's rough! lol

I am so lucky! My company gives a week's pay as a bonus. When I started here 4 years ago they had big parties every year at a club in Boston. Then the corporate office started scaling back, and left it to the discretion of the department managers. The next year it was lunch at the country club. The last few years it has been food being brought in after work. I can't complain, even though I can't take any time off because my department is understaffed.

I never worked for big comanies with fancy parties, but one place gave awesome Christmas hampers!

I got great bonuses at one place I worked - they based it on how many hours of overtime you put in, good thing I was slaving hard that year.

I got a really lovely Christmas present this year from my employer, and I don't even start working for her until the new year!

I work in a small office (4 of us) so we don't have a party but we do go out for a nice lunch at a high-end restaurant (today was the day). We also get a gift certificate for the local grocery for a turkey (or whatever else you want to spend it on). We get our bonuses in March in time to top up our RRSP's should we want to do that.

My husband works for Panasonic and they have a huge Christmas party - this year there were over 400 people there. They also give out wonderful prizes. My husband won one of the lesser of the big prizes - a 27" TV with built-in CD, DVD and VCR. The other prizes that were drawn were 2 Plasma TV's, an LCD TV, digital camera and lesser prizes like season tickets to the Raptors, rice cooker, etc.

We have a few hundred employees at our company so we have an awesome massive christmas party - since I only work part time I don't get a bonus but since I am rostered to work Christmas Day (Sunday) I get paid, since we aren't open that day.

Since Monday (Boxing Day) is also a public holiday I chose to work that and I get paid time and a half.

Oh and we also have a staff shout which is more of a lunch christmas party, that's tomorrow but it's my day off so I'm not going to go!

Oh yes indeedy. Our Christmas lunches are hysterical. It's always at the same restaurant, Cocos, which is on the river, and it's always me, my boss, and our anaesthetists, so there's usually about five of us.

Ours was last Friday. It started at 1.30 in the afternoon, and ended when we all crawled semi-comatose into taxis at 2am the following day. Every year we say, `We're not going to have a big one this year'. And every year it gets bigger. We have some very embarrassing photos of the night, too, which we are not allowed to show anyone else!

My boss said he was sick ALL weekend after this year's and his wife punished him by making him work in the garden for two days in the broiling summer sun!

Oh, and I get a bonus, too. It's not big but I think it's the gesture that matters.

Holy cow...I'm starting to feel a little spoiled at this company.

Not only was it all out for the Christmas Party (huge bonuses, open bar, etc), and we have all of next week off, but they also took all the departments out to lunch at the restaraunt of their choice. Plus i got a box of Splendid Chocolates from a customer that I don't even know! LOL!

All the head managers cracked open a bottle of scotch yesterday afternoon...holy cow, within an hour the smell was all over the building.

I'm sorry BabyHarley, but you need to get out of that place! There are still companies that are good to work for. When I interviewed, I also asked what the social events were like, what holidays were given to the employees, and overall the bennies.

Anyways, how many of you out there go to your company Christmas parties?

Do you get a Christmas bonus or anything? Last year, we got a catalog ...don't get me wrong, thanks, but it wasn't anything worth getting, it was all really kinda junk stuff that I have plenty of at home already!

When I worked at my last job, I was only part time cuz I was going to college and we still got a hefty christmas bonus.

What about you?
I reluctantly went since the organizer and I are good friends. Sadly, half of the office did not attend, and there was just no Christmas spirit.
