Some people think that cats are not that sensitive to humans. I disagree. Although Hobbs is an affectionate cat, of all the people in my household Hobbs will only sit or sleep in my lap, or jump up to only me to be petted when I'm in a chair. However, my mother-in-law comes over sometimes. She is disabled and in chronic pain. But she loves Hobbs! The only other person in the world that Hobbs will sleep with in a chair or jump up to be petted is with her! I believe in my heart that he knows she is not well, knows that she loves him, and wants to make her feel better. I snapped some pics of Hobbs sleeping with her in the recliner, when she woke, and also when he jumped up to her to be petted. He is a sweet cat.

I'm sure he does know your mother in law is in poor health. Cats sense things I'm sure of it. This is just more proof that indead they do. What lovely pictures thanks for sharing them with us. Your mother in law sure looks she is enjoying all the cat attention.

Ditto here!
Bless his dear, sweet heart. And ya know what? I bet his wonderful companionship DOES make mom-in-law feel better. Good job, wonderful Hobbes.

I am convinced that cats, and dogs as well, arevery sensitive to our health on many levels, physical as well as empathetic. I've heard that they can train dogs to smell cancer!
My wife has many health issues, and our cats seem to have always sensed this and often try to comfort her. But when little Peekaboo came into our lives, she and my wife bonded almost instantly, and are now almost inseperable. Peekaboo has some health problems of her own, and I think she is even more sensitive to my wife's pain because of it. I know that both my wife and Peekaboo are happier since they have each other. I don't mind, though. I love them both.
