I have noticed that my 4 1/2 month old kitten (about 5 lbs) has taken a real liking to canned food & I have a few questions.

1) Is there a proper procedure for feeding him canned food?

2) Should I feed him canned once in the morning & canned once at night with kibble available to him throughout the day?

3) Or should I allow him to eat as much canned food as he wants in one sitting and feed him only canned food 4 times a day?

As you can tell we're new parents when it comes to kittens & we want to do what's best for him during this important first year of his life. We are feeding him Felidae.

Okay rule of thumb on six ounce can per four lbs a day... that is double the adult and is usually what all stage food s recommend.. I would offer the canned at least three times a day

Kittens should be offered as much food as they like at each meal to ensure they have an adequate intake of nutrients – they are unlikely to overeat at this stage in their life.

Kittens vary in their individual requirements and some grow at a faster than others. They will generally eat enough to satisfy their needs within 20 minutes or so – after this remove any uneaten portions and replace with fresh food at the next meal.

Can the same be said for feeding a kitten raw food? Should a kitten be fed raw food at all??
