Hello,

Iv got a little 13-week old male tabby kitten called Spoons :-) ! - we got him when he was 6 weeks old and just recently he has got into the habbit of sucking my santa hat on the fluffy bit! - just like he would on his mums teat.
someone told me i am supposed to take the hat away if he does this, but im really not sure so i wanted to ask you guys!

he also does this to anything that resembles fur.

i think its harmless, but im not sure?

any ideas?

Thank you!

Sounds like your kitten was taken away from it's mom too soon...typically kittens shouldn't leave their mom until they are 10-12 weeks of age. If you do not want him to suckle your santa hat..you need to provide him a substitute. You can get him a stuffed animal, like this one:

hi there!
when i read this, it put a smile on my face. that's so sweet. all 3 of my cats still suckle. i think it is a clue that the cat was weened off his mother too soon. sammi suckles two jersey pillow cases, raoul suckles sammi, and raja suckles my pink baby blanket that i wrapped her in when i got her. try to find another blankie (maybe in the baby section of target or walmart) that is the same material of the hat, and put it on your "spoons" 's bed so he can suckle there.... GOOOD LUCK!!!!
