This may be 'old hat' to y'all but my wife discovered the cheapest "toy" for our 7 month old Ginger the other day-------a paper, grocery bag
! That's right; she loves pushing it all around our wooden floor, scooting in to it, peeking out
, and hiding her toy mouse in there. Yes, we usually use plastic but the paper bag is a hit with our young Oci.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Tell me about it!. You spend money on toys and they could play for hours with things that havent really cost anything.

Rosies favourites are a piece of raw carrott, a pea pod, a cork, a bottle top, and Sophie waits patiently for the wrapper from a chocolate biscuit that i have to tie in a knot

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
the 'free' thing JJ loves is the caps off my water bottles. Being in Chicago, the tap water is something you consume with caution... so I get bottled delivered... for a while I was getting single-serve bottles along with the cooler bottles... so each time I unscrewed a cap, there was JoJo, eyeing the cap. If I set it down somewhere, as soon as I turned my back, she would bat it off of wherever it was... sometimes i just threw it, and she'd go chasing after it...

My friend Dea's cat, well, oneof them, loves suction cups... one in particular... she goes hunting for it, knows where it is, and if she can't reach it, she walks back and forth between its location and her 'daddy', Dea's DH, meowing, until he gets up and retrieves it for her... such a spoiled little girl...

Suction cups and bottle caps... oh yeah, and the rings off the plastic milk bottles (to the locals: I get Deans Milk in the white quart containers, so there's a nice large ring from each bottle... they both love that thing...)

My cat's love paperbags and boxes that have lids to they can jump in and the lid closes on top of them so they can jump out and scare the other cat or me as the case might be. The cheepest toys are always the best, a cardbord roll from christmas paper is a great toy too, and it keeps the kids from "Helping" you wrap gifts for a little while

Danny loves to play with the child-proof caps off of pill bottles. They rattle and are a fun interactive toy. (Danny will hide in a paper bag and we will hit it back and forth.) They are fun to roll like a wheel too. (Hmmm....I seem to have as much fun as he does
) I just wash them first to make sure there is no medicine residue.

Isn't that the greatest?! My guys LOVE paper bags, too. They'll even put their heads into lunch-sized (smaller) paper bags and walk around with it stuck on their heads! THAT is amusing!
They love anything that CRINKLES!!

I have a friend who had 2 cats a long ways back, and they were rather... dim. I'm sorry! they were!

Athena would hide in a paper bag, thinking that she was invisible, and smack Loki when he passed by the bag. Of course, loki knew she was in there, and once he got tired of getting tagged from around the corner of the bag, he walked around behind the bag, and pounced (okay, more like sumo smashed- he was a big guy!) the bag, thereby squashing Athena.

Yes, my cats
paper bags, too!
I guess it's a cat thing
. It's kind of funny and ironic, though, how many of us buy these expensive, nice toys for them for Christmas when they'd much rather have a huge cardboard box or something
.

I see my Neko has reached in my garbage can and snagged a couple of chocolate foil candy wrappers that were in there- I KNOW I didn't put them in the middle of the rug. Dust dancing in sunlight is also a favourite in the summer, as is my living room door mat-she loves to race down the hall, land on it and skate across the hardwood like some kind of slip'n'slide at a water park.

There's no place like home
Paper bags are awesome, but boxes are even better! The best toy in the house is from a 30-pack of beer. It has the big hole on top to jump in, and holes in the side to bat at their friends. Mine use it as a sled to slide up and down the hallway.......

I have found that Kitty loves those plastic rings as well. She also likes foil balls and, for some reason, my shoelaces.
I'm not sure why, but she's funny to watch.

like Pixel - if i have a paper towel, she's sitting, waiting, wanting me to fold it into a paper football for her to play with!

For Archimedes it is whatever he can get ahold of.

Pens, pencils, toilet paper, erasers, paper, shoes, coins (yes, he will jump onto the small table, take a penny from the dish and toss it on the floor to bat around).

Molly will bat a pebble around the kitchen floor for hours. She also likes bottle caps and milk top rings. Megan would rather sleep than play, but sometimes she'll go for a bottle cap. Oh, and we dare not leave the sewing room door opened. They both like to look for toys in there!
