I'm just a little bit freaked out at the moment - I was giving my baby loves last night and just above her arm or near her armpit I felt a small growth or lump...I'm taking her to the vet on Sat anyway to have her stitches taken out, so I'll get them to check it out while I'm there. I'm so scared - I hope it's nothing serious

Please don't be scared. Lumps are quite common on cats.

Definitely have the vet look at it, but it's probably just a cyst or lipoma (benign fatty tumor). My parents dog had a lipoma under his armpit, and it never bothered him. Spot has a cyst on his back that reoccurs. When it gets large or seems to bother him, the vet drains it with a needle. How old is your kitty? Was she outdoors at some point? Spot is my foundling, and he was outside for who-knows how long before I took him home. He has a second lump in his shoulder which is much more solid. An x-ray (for a separate medical condition) showed it was a BB. There are all kinds of things that can cause lumps or bumps on cats, and a lot of them are harmless (Spot's BB doesn't bother him, so we've left it alone). Let us know what the vet says.

Any and all lumps should be checked out by your vet, regardless of how your pet is acting. Your vet will assess the location, duration, firmness, and size and advise you what to do next. Keep us updated.

Am glad you are getting it checked out. I have got 2 overweight males, and both have had fatty lumps, but the worry doens't go away till the vet says 'it is nothing to worry about' - I am a nervous wreck when I find a lump.

My kitty also had a lump which I found in the same place after she was spayed. It turned out to be from the injection they gave her before the spaying (I forget what the stuff was called). They told me this reaction is common. It gradually got a little smaller and after about 3 weeks after the spaying I think it popped because it was suddenly gone and there were little scabs. After that the fur slowly starts to grow back.
