I have two 8 month old cats. One is slim but the other is quite heavy. Probably around 7-9 pounds. for a 8 month old male cat what is a decent weight? it's obvious he's overweight and it's probably unhealthy. everyone sees him and goes "your cat is so huge..." cause yeah he's pretty big. my dad and i are making sure we dont give the cats too much food cause the slim one is getting a little chunky. any ideas of how to monitor this? anyone know how many calories a cat would need in a day? i'm not going to underfeed my cats by any means i just wanna make sure he isnt having too much

7-9 pounds for a 8 month old doesnt sound that heavy to me especially a male. My cats both turned around 15 months old and shamus is around 16 pounds. Granted he isnt Mr Slim but he isnt obese, just a big cat.

i just weighed him. i was way off haha he's 12.5 hmm. he is a big cat but has quite a big gut so i'm not sure

It would be highly unusual - and probably a sign of an underlying medical condition - for an 8-month-old kitten to be obese.
I would recommend that you make an appointment with the vet and find out what s/he has to say about your cat's weight and overall body condition.
