As some of you may know from reading my posts I work in a veterinary office and today the animal control officer brought in a black and white female cat who had been hit by a car.

Since it rained today she was soaking wet and she laid there pretty much comatose. She couldn't have been very old. She was also pregnant and was due in a couple weeks. Her pelvis was shattered and she was paralized from the waist down. We had no choise other than to put her to sleep.

It was extremly saddening and we all felt very bad for this poor girl and her babies. Although we all would have liked to save her, she was in alot of pain and there was nothing more we could do. I'm sorry to tell such a sad story but it was bothering me and I needed to get it off my chest.

I hope she's in a better place now along with her babies. Unfortunatly there's not much you can do to prevent hit by cars and this is a good reminder on why I keep my kitties inside(although she was most likey a stray).

Thanks guys....

I am so sorry that you had this experience at work today. My thoughts are with the little fur babe that crossed to the Bridge today. Despite the decisions that had to be made, she did not die alone along the side of the road. She knew the love in your heart for those few minutes.

That is SO sad!! But I know you did all you could do for her. She is not in any pain now.

That is indeed a very sad story. But Debra is right - she knew love in her last few moments. That is why I couldn't do what you do, Bad Habit, and truly admire those of you who do. You all did make the right decision, even though it was difficult.

Poor BadHabit. I used to work for a vet, so I know how those sad stories follow you home and haunt you. In fact, years later, some of them still haunt me.

Poor kitty and babies. But they're frolicking at the bridge now, and the human they are waiting for is YOU because of the few minutes of love and compassion you showed.

I'm sorry you had such a bad day
You did what was best for her and her babies, and I'm sure she thanks your for that! I will never understand why people let their animals run around outside

I was talking to my dad last week, and he was telling me how their are coyotes around near their house. He said "Well, there's not that many cats around now...." I said that is why we keep ours indoors only because it is better for them, etc. And, his reply "Well, cats are a little harder" I'm assuming he means harder to keep inside, which if you ask me is complete bullcrap.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that today but at least she went with people around her who loved her for the brief time that they knew her. I too used to work for a vet and had to assist in many situations similar to that. Thank you for coming to us and I hope that your heart may lighten with the coming days.

Thank you for sharing that with us. What a sad story. At least the kitty felt your love in the last few minutes and now her and her babies are in a better place.

Thank you guys for all your support. It's so nice to see people who care as much as her as I did even though I didn't know her. It was hard because the poor little girl was out on her own fending for herself and her babies with no help.

I'm glad we were there for her at her last minutes and she didn't suffer.
