My son has several female cats who are showing a feminine discharge that is brownish in color. He's wanting to know is this something he should be calling a vet for or is it just a "female" thing? He also has several (neutered) male cats who are not showing any probs.

Are the females spayed?
My cat is having a problem like this and her anal glands need to be expressed by a vet. I just learned all about that. If the females aren't spayed then I would first of all do that. It is not good for them to keep going into heat over and over again and it is way healthier to spay them in the long run. It can prevent many diseases when they get older.

No, they're not spayed. Thanks for the info, I'll call my son and tell him that might be the problem.

If you want, tell me your city and state and i can try to find you a low cost clinic or mobile clinic to get them done for cheaper.

Hi since they are not spayed, dollars to doughnuts, the discharge may well be a sign of a uterine infection, called pyometra. He needs to have them both evaluated asap, and truly, altering them is best.

I speak from personal experience of owing one cat who developed mammary cancer - I'm convinced because she was spayed later in life, yes, it was my mistake. I also have had a cat with pyometra..it needs to be dealt with very promptly.

Please keep us posted.

IF THEY ARE NOT SPAYED, GET THEM TO THE VET. THE MAY HAVE AN INFECTED UTERUS. MY BABY HAD PYROMETRA (INFECTED UTERUS) I ALMOST LOST HER, ACT FAST! YOU NEVER KNOW, AND YOU WANT TO BE SURE
