I got one..

Me: Happy Holidays and think you for calling your 24hr Peach Street Walmart, how may I direct your call

guy: It this walmart?

me: yes it is

guy: when do you close tonight?

me: We are open 24hrs

guy: so when do you close again?

me we don't close, we are open 24 hrs

guy: Who's laughing

me: some customers, why?

guy: why are they laughing at me

me: Sir they are not laughing at you

Guy: I want to talk to a manager, you people are being rude to me

me: umm ok hold please while I page for them

This guy then yells at my manager about people laughing at him when they really weren't. Thankfully my manager believe me when I said it was a customer laughing and not me.

What a great topic, since I have to go to my crummy job in 15 minutes to answer the phones all day. I have to answer the phone with scripts and I have to say the samething over and over and over again all day!!!!! To boot its a company that has catalogs, I work in the catalog division

Let me tell you about how nasty some people can be at holiday time......

Well I am off to work!!!!

Movin' on up!
I work inbound customer service, for a telephone company and some people are too stupid to use phones.

ME: Thank you for calling (company name). My name is Cindy. May I have your area code and telephone number please?

CALLER: 60609

ME: Sir, I need your AREA code, not your ZIP code.

CALLER: The phone I'm calling from or the phone I'm calling about?

ME: The phone that you're calling in reference too.

It goes downhill, from there. Do you know that there are people who do not know their OWN addresses? A woman called in yesterday and tried to disconnect her "father's" phone. She knew the number but not the address and she wasn't authorized on the account. We can't just disconnect someone's phone, on just anybody's say-so. I have a hunch this was a disgruntled girlfriend, trying to get back at this guy.

Ah, the joys of customer service!

That just drives me NUTS when people say that kinda stuff...'oh, so you really do more than just answer phones?!' HELLO...I think sometimes I do more paperwork and talk to more customers than my boss does!

Dealing with customers is no cup of tea most of the time let me tell ya!

When the phone rings, I stop whatever I'm doing to answer it. Its someone making an appointment. Then someone calls with an emergency. I tell them they need to hold while I end the original call. I get back to the emergency and get a crew out to them. This requires starting a file on them. I take several more calls, finish the file, send the crew, and then try to get back to what I was originally working on.

Exactly right. We are NOT sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. Now, my boss is leaving Jan 1, but I get to have an assistant, so Fran

Same here! I usually end up doing about 1 million things at once all day long, trying not to forget what I was originally working on!

Thats why I love going home at the end of the day and being alone with Harley....he doensn't talk back to me!

Dealing with people over the telephone is an "enlightening" experience to say the very least. I love the people who are saying "Hello", Hello", before you even have had a chance to answer the line. Every day of the year is Grinch day, in my experience. Oh, there are a few nice people, but I find that the majority are cold and indifferent to down right rude. And most people have no idea how to speak clearly. They mumble and slur their words, or speak so quietly you can barely hear them, and they get angry with YOU if you ask them to repeat

One of my favourite calls came from a woman (I'd call her the same thing you would call a female dog) who had been out partying all night, and when she got to her car, she found it was locked in the parking lot, because the lot said it closed at 2am. She was angry, and wanted someone to come down to the lot and let her get her car out at that time. I tried to explain that they post the sign up to warn everyone the lot will be closed at a certain time, and when it's closed they go home. She started whining to me that she couldn't find anywhere else to park, and so she parked there. I told her, "Well, I'm sorry but you'll have to wait until they open up, there's nothing that can be done at 4am in the morning." Now mind you, she was one of these rich little Malibu Barbies, with a superior attitude. Anyway, she asked me, what I would have done. I told her, I wouldn't have parked there, if the sign said they closed at 2am, if I thought I might be out later than that. Apparently she had a friend with her, and she said to her friend, "Can you believe, I'm getting advise from a "minimum wage" Peon? I saw RED, I was so angry. First of all I AM NOT a minimun wage Peon, and second off, she asked ME what I would have done.

Oh, I would have been LIVID!
- except for one thing. She's the one who has her car locked up, not me!
(Imagine saying - hey, I'm not the one with my car locked up)

Easier said than done, but people don't get to me as much when I remember that they are the ones in need. If they don't get what they want it doesn't effect me. I still get paid the same.
