Hi!

I'm Terry and have a beautiful 11 1/2 yr black and white cat named Leroy. I'm not too savvy about forums and have only posted a few times. So, while I learn the ropes I also am seeking all info about cystitis...urinary tract crystals. He just started feeling mopey in early November.

Poor Leroy has been back and forth to emergency and then to the vet for testing. He is on a new special diet for struvite crystals but when the antibiotics wore off he seems to be just as sick as before! I am sooo much hoping that we can find a way to get rid of them so he can play and be happy again.

I am going to post in the health section next. Just wanted to say hi and I'll be back when I'm not so worried about the current situation.

Bye for now,
Terry

Hi Terry and Leroy. Welcome to TCS.

I don't know anything about urinary tract crystals but I heard that getting a lot of water is supposed to help with urinary tract infections in general (probably you know this). A kitty fountain might help encourage Leroy to drink more water.

Well, good luck and keep us informed. I hope Leroy will be feeling better soon.

Well, Leroy went to the doctor's today for a followup...but he didn't have any urine in him to test! So now I have to find a way to put something under him when he pee's for a sample to take to the vet

At least he seems to be feeling better...all day today he was acting playful and in good spirits. Let's hope he pee's soon and that I can catch some, lol.

Thanks for all your good wishes,
Terry

PS...I just got a kitty drinking fountain about a week ago for Leroy's early Christmas present and so far he's afraid of it!!!!

Wow, how do they expect you to pull that off? I'd fear something like that might give him litterbox aversion. I don't suppose there's any special litter that's really not absorbent at all that you could use in strainer-type box? (this is just an idea and I don't know if it is actually implementable..)

Good luck with that.

I heard that sometimes these things take some getting used to... I hope that he will decide he likes it.
