Hey I was wondering if anyone has had problems with their baby sleeping all day and playing all night? Obviously this creates a few problems because I need to sleep all night. Anyways, any suggestions on how to change their sleeping scheduel? I was thinking about maybe penning her up one night so when I let her out in the morning she'll have tons of energy. Of course this isn't the ideal solution so I was wondering what you all have done in the past.

Cats are instinctively nocturnal, but you can modify their sleep schedule by tiring them out during the day. Figure out which toy is your kitty's favorite, wake him up and play with him for at least an hour a few times during the day. When it gets close to your bed time, engage your kitty in another vigorous play session, then give him a nice meal of canned food. Being tired out and having a full tummy should encourage your kitty to sleep more at night.

Crating your kitty at night is not an ideal solution, as you said. Have you considered locking him out of your room at night? I know that many kitties scratch and meow at the door when locked out of mom or dad's room at night, but if you are losing sleep and don't have enough time to tire him out with play, you may consider it. You can stop the meowing and scratching by putting the vacuum outside the door and running the cord under the door into your room. The vacuum switch should be in the "on" position. When you hear kitty meowing and scratching, plug in the vacuum. The loud noise will deter the behavior without the kitty associating it with you.

I hope one of these options works for you, so you can avoid crating the kitty at night. (Credit goes to Hissy for the vacuum idea.)

Thanks, for the suggestions. I don't particularly want to lock the kittie out because I like sleeping with her. I was also thinking about getting a second kitten but am still unsure about this option.

A second kitty may help too. I forgot to mention that one! My two tire each other out without me having to do much. They sleep through most of the night now, although they did have their 11 pm crazy hour for a while. Thank goodness they've stopped that

YES!!You should hear our house at night. It sounds like there is a party going on.Thankfully we all sleep with box fans going all year round.SO, that helps block out the noise of the girls some

If your baby is keeping you up all night long running around the house....two will only add to more noise. But, I would HIGHLY suggest getting another one
When I'm busy and have to do house work, Blaze now has Neela to occupy her with.

I have a suggestion that could work. I am lucky that my two kitties literally wait until we go to sleep and then pop right in bed with us and sleep til morning. One thing you might try is to lock your cats IN with you for a couple of nights, and take out all their toys from your room. Perhaps in a couple of nights they might get bored, jump up to your bed, and get their ZZZZZZZZZ's.
Good luck

I have to say we are lucky in that Bijou and Mika sleep with us - I think they sleep all day too!

Seriously, they play and chase each other around the house and we play with them in the evening so come bedtime they know it's time for sleep. Bijou sleeps with us and Mika sleeps with our daughter.

Maybe as your kitten gets older it may settle down at night.

LOL-- I think Harley sleeps all day too!!

We try to wear Harley out at night before we go to bed so he's not up all night!

He used to run around all night, but now that he's a little older - 6 mos. - he sleeps with us all night, he'll get up occasionaly but he sleeps with us for the majority of the night.

Good luck!

Duke seems to sleep all day and night, I have to move him in order to roll over in bed. Sibohan is a little more active at night she yells for a few minutes when I turn out the lights because she wants Duke to come play with her but Duke is quite content sleeping. She gives up after a good 8-10 meows and goes and finds somthing else to do. Mainly she moves her cat toys into a ring that by morning surrounds my bed and I normally step on somthing that squeeks, jingles or imbeds itself into my foot each morning. I Did at one time try to lock her out but she learned to knock on the door. Somtimes it just takes time and a set of earplugs
