The transition moving Beavis ( FILs 18 yr old cat) into our house has gone off pretty much without a hitch. Beavis now has free roam of the house with PB and is doing good-- There have been no cat fights-- very very minimal hissing (usually only when PB pounces on Beavis wanting to play) and no food or litter issues.

I do have a concern though. I am taking into account that Beavis has not been around children on a regular basis for many years. Me and my kids used to go to FILs house about once a week and during that time Beavis usually hid. Beavis is hissing at my 20 mo old daughter-- just when she is near or walks by him. ( he doesnt hiss at my son though) What should I or can i do? I know its going to take some getting used to on Beavis part but is there anything i can do to let him know its not acceptable? My daughter hasnt even touched Beavis since we brought him home. She could care less. I dont want to force the adjustment period and Beavis hasnt swatted or bit at my daughter, he just hisses and growls. I guess he just doesnt know what to make of her. Any suggestions?

on a side note-- Beavis has seriously come out of his shell. Instead of hiding all the time like he did at my in laws house he is all over us-- last nite he even jumped up on the couch while we were watching tv and watched with us for well over an hour. He follows us everywhere and LOVES being brushed (i had to buy him his own brush he likes it so much). Beavis follows me into the kids rooms at nite to check on them every nite as well. I know he misses my FIL as Beavis is a bit clingy and very vocal right now. Hes doing good though. He sleeps with us at nite and everything-- very good kitty.

Maybe get some really good treats and have your 20 month old be the one to place it on a platter for Beavis. You stand there to make sure that he doesn't swat her, but associates her and a nice treat.Other than that, I don't know what else to suggest.Hopefully someone will be on SOON to help offer some advice.
