My neighbor's cat recently gave birth to 6 kittens (her first time has baby), and they are around 3 and half week old. The kittens started to walk around their box since this morning (they were always in box before).

When I went there in the evening, my neighbor discribed the mom picked up the yellow one a while ago, unusually the kitten start to cry like it was in pain. Before that all kittens walked like crazy and mom has to always pick them back from "dangerous places". It feels like the mom was punishing the yellow one cuz after the crying of yellow one, all his siblings calmed down and took a nap.

After like an hour later when neighbor and I were talking in the living room, we heard the same cry from the yellow, again. It is absolutely different cry from "I'm hungry", or "I'm stucked in here mom", it is more like the tail been steped on. And there's the mom again, picking yellow at neck and running out to us, we were suprised and asked "what happend??" then mom running inside with kitten, we followed inside and mom put yellow near my neighbor, then looked at us and meowed like there's an emergency. We got confused, all kittens were there, why does she always pick up the same kitten? In a way that the little one might in pain??? Does she want to get rid of him??? She then lies back to their box, we put yellow back to her, she seems allright.

We get so confused and worried :-( Since my neighbor has a part time job, she can't stay at home all day watching them. Is the mom going to hurt the baby? Why does she pick up the same one? Does that because she's a new mom? Or the yellow been bug her too much? Or the yellow always fighting? Yellow is not the biggest, but he is definitely more likely to crying than his other siblings... Did the mom get impatient with kittens? They havn't try kitten food yet so they still rely on mom's milk.

Thanks everyone for your reply... Sorry I can't discribe it very well in English.

I'd take baby yellow to the vet. Mommy cats can usually tell if something is wrong, maybe shes trying to tell you? I can't say from experience b/c I've never had a mom with babies, but from what I have heard this could be the case.

Ya I would take that Yellow kitten to the vet too. Something may be wrong. Mothers usually know. Let is know what the vet says.

I would definately take the little one to the vet.....sometimes when the mom senses that something is wrong with a kitten..she will try to remove it from the others so they also do not become sick.

I do hope your neighbor plans to have the mom cat spayed once the kittens have been weaned.

Thanks all, I talked to her and although yellow looks alright (yellow is actually the strongest and is very active) she agreed to take him to vet today, will post after the result.

Thanks again! :-)

So happy to hear she took the yellow baby to the vet - mamas always know if a kit is ill! They are sooo perceptive! I swear thay are for the most part better mommies than human ones!

Thanks to you all :-)

Visit neighbor yesterday and she said the vet said yellow is healthy. :-)

Seems the mom moved all kittens underbed. Probably she feels the old place is not secure enough and too bright. Yellow looks alright, active as usually.

I think the other day mom picked up yellow might because she wants to find new home for them (consider yesterday they moved). Probably yellow happend to be a kitten doesn't like been pick up anymore (he is active but whines A LOT)

Anyway, I suggested my neighbor to keep an eye on yellow and she agreed.

It's great the kitten is ok....please have your neighbor keep the mom cat indoors only until she can be spayed.
