Hi all,

I have a question.. does anyone know how to get clay litter, that is more like a hunk of cement desolved from my kitties paw?

I've wrapped her little paw with warm wash cloths and put her paw in a bowl of warm water and gently tried to soften/pick off the clay.
I got some off... (been working a couple of days on it)

It's stuck between her toes and "palm" of paw. In the tiny hairs. ouch!
Poor baby... she isn't carring to much for me coming near her right now, for fear I'll "work" on the clump.

Is there any solution I can get that would help and not be toxic to her?

I've thought about taking her to the vet.. but I think they wouldn't be nearly as gentle as I've been in trying to desolve it.

Thanks for any helpful hints.

I had this problem with my cat when she was older. I had to try to cut it off of the hair. It always took me a couple of days to remove it all. I didn't have any luck trying to soak it.
I changed the cat litter brands to stop the problem. Your litter has too much clay in it. Now I mix a wheat based cat litter and the Nature's miracle cat litter and I no lonter have the problem.
Good luck.

Thanks for the tip.
I am not familar with the two litters you recommended, but you can be sure I'll go to pet store and find them to try.

It's odd, that my other three have never had this problem, and it is the first time she's had it. Maybe a one time thing? I don't really know her age, she could be about 10. (she adopted me last year, started living on my porch)

Nonetheless, I surely don't want it to happen again, once I get the rest of it off her little paw..

Thanks again.. for your quick reply.

If you can get ahold of some Crisco shortening, you can put that on the paw for about 10 minutes, then wipe it off with a dry towel that is warmed- cycled in the dryer or heated in the microwave.

If you want really inexpensive cat litter that won't do this, rabbit pellets work great- the green alfalfa pellets.

Mine have this problem from time to time too. What I usually do is brush it out with a fine comb, it works pretty well for me.

Thanks everyone for helpful hints..

I'll try the crisco suggestion.
I can't comb it out, because it is right between her "ring finger" and "palm".. in the deep folds. You have to press on her toes, as if you were going to clip nails to flatten the paw out some to get to it. A comb wouldn't fit in that tiny space.

Since she (so far, knock on wood) is the only one that has had this problem. I will change her litter box to one that you all suggested.

Sometimes it is just tough being the mommy... her hating me messing with her foot, and my knowing I have to get that cement lump out of there. <sigh>

Thanks again everyone, great suggestions. Wish me luck, I'm going in for another round of the saga "get the cememt lump out of there".

I should have mentioned I had been using the same cat litter for 10 years before my cat started getting the clumps between her toes. She was 19 and when she was covering her pee up, she would step in it. Changing litters fixed the problem immediately.
Hopefully it was a one time thing for your kitty and you won't have to change litters.

Thanks Meower,
Well, I work some more on them, and all but a tiny sliver of one of the clumps is gone. YAY!
She, of course isn't liking me much right about now.

I am going to go get another type of litter later today.
I don't want to risk another bout of cemented toes, stuck together. Poor baby!

That is interesting that your kitties used the same litter for so long, and then the clump issue started.

Thanks again,

Ok so I had the same problem and I never knew it was in my Kitty's nail. It was so difficult to take it out and I didn't know what else to do without getting my kitty in pain.
①Get a normal safty pin
②use pliers to cut the tip of the safty pin
③ simply push the litter out of the nail without hurtting the cat

My kitten was on my lap and I had toys in one hand to distract her, it was really easy and I decided to tell you.
