My boyfriend and I saved our kitten when he was just about 6 weeks old. Now he is about 8 months old and last night my boyfriend slept over at my apartment and my cat peed or sprayed on him in the middle of the night! This is such an unexpected behavior! Is there a problem?

Is he desexed? At 8 months he could be spraying because of... urges. He'd definitely need to be desexed if he isn't already. Or else it could be a urinary tract infection. The other option is he might be a bit stressed, cats don't cope that well with change. Is he used to your boyfriend being there? I know that when my boyfriend came back to live with me my cat peed on his towel. That taught him not to leave his towels on the bathroom floor!!

I agree, first thing to always consider first is a possible urinary infection, which is very dangerious. SO, watch to see if he goes to the litter box often and tries to go pee and nothing/or very little comes out... followed by a repeat trip to the box etc.
IF that happens, take him to the vet ASAP.

Having said that...
I once had a cat that attempted to urinated on my sleeping boyfriend,(luckily I saw him "squat" and stopped him) and another cat (years later) that urinated in another boyfriend's shoe.

Hindsight being 20/20 both cats were right on in their perception of both boyfriends.
(not to say your boyfriend is questionable)

Neither of mine had an urinary infection... it was some marking their territory thing. (I think anyway)

Good luck to you... I sure know how a behavioral problem is worrisome.
