Gas Chambers Initiative
When we started collecting information about Virginia's gas chambers in November of 2004, we found 21 jurisdictions were using gas.

That list is now down to 8 (as of December, 2005).

Those still using gas are:

Appomattox County-76% cats and 45% dogs euthanized in 2004
Buchanan County-94% cats and 94% dogs euthanized in 2004
Cumberland County-data not available
Lee County -data not available
Martinsville City -100% cats and 74% dogs euthanized in 2004
Scott County -84% dogs euthanized (they don't house cats)
Southampton County -data not available
Wythe County -data not available
Those that stopped using gas (congratulations!) during the last year are:

Bath County
Buckingham County
Charlotte County
Chesterfield County
Floyd County
Franklin City
Franklin County
Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society
Isle of Wight County
Pittsylvania County
Prince Edward County
Pulaski County
Sussex County

Thank you for this. Great work!

Ill spread the word to my friends/family in the richmond area to sign the governors petition and do something locally.

I cannot believe a place as beautiful as Virginia still uses such means to euthinize animals.

Thank you for your Great work on this issue.

I would suggest joining the VVAW...they have a yahoo group:

They could certainly use local support in order to change things in remaining 8 counties.
