Beavis ( my new 18 yr old cat) has never had a treat in his life. He wont eat table food, wont even smell canned food and has never been brushed or pampered in any way. Hes been on dry kibble all his life ( science diet). I LOVE giving my babies treats in moderation. Beavis just sniffed it when i offered it to him. It was one of the soft whiskerlickins treats. can i teach him or will he come around and learn to enjoy treats? My other babies dont even get treats on a daily basis just whenever i feel like it-- usually once a week or so.

On another note, Beavis is doing soo good here. He finally has a clean litter box and i bought him a soft slicker brush today and he ADORES it. I dont think hes ever been brushed. He laid there and let me brush him all over. Anyway i digress--

What do yall think? Will he come around?

I'm sure he can learn to like treats, you just have to find treats that he's into. Both my cats hate the soft whisker lickins, but they like the hard whisker lickins (tuna or crab).

If he likes the food you're serving, why not just give him that as a treat? An 18-year-old cat is pretty set in his ways. I don't think cats really have an appreciation for different kinds of foods like we do. To them, food is food. And just giving him what he likes and is used to will make him happy.

How wonderful that you'd take in an older catizen
I'd suggest trying some simpler treats - try boiling some plain chicken up for him, try any of the single protein treats that don't have dyes, sugars, flours, preservatives - Patrick (my 18 1/2 y.o.) loves rosie's rewards, kitty kaviar, wildside salmon..you won't find these brands in a petsmart or petco but you can find similar treats.

Baby is 7 years old and he has never liked treats, even when he was a kitten. He would always sniff it and walk away. I think he thinks it's a bit odd that I am giving him food that smells semi-good by hand.

Mine mostly turn up their noses at all official cat treats but will come running if I offer them cubes of cheddar cheese! Some cats just don't 'get' treats.
