Twitch has the pinkish rims around here beautiful blue eyes. For the past few days, I have noticed that the pink rim around her right eye is red. She has crusty stuff where her eye meets her nose there. She received her 3rd & final Depo Medrol steroid shot on Nov. 30th. She had a red rimmed eye before, but it never persisted for more than 2 days. It has been 3 now & she still has a red rim around her eye. Her left eye is fine.

Any ideas what this is? What could cause this? The vet wasn't worried about here eye when it was like this before, but to me it seems worse this time. She doesn't rub it or scratch at it. I clean the gunk away from her eye morning & night.

Persil and Wellington get a bit of gunk in the corner of their eyes (usually the left!) regularly and I asked the vet about it. But he said it was nothing. If there was pink rimming the eye though I would take them in.

I've got three white cats, but first I'll say to take her to the vet. Sometimes when cats get red eye rims it can mean they've got an infection. Does your cat go outside or do you have other cats? It could be that she's been fighting (either play-fighting or the serious stuff) and been scratched on her eyelid. Sometimes the scratch is so small you can't see it.

I'd definitely take her to the vet because eye infections can flare up very quickly and lead to ulcers which is very painful for the cat, can lead to loss of sight and horrendously expensive vet bills for you.

Good luck and let us know how she gets on.

Her eyes have always been pink rimmed, but the red is what has me worried. She is never outside. The only other cat she is ever exposed to is Lily who is also never let outside.

I called the vet & she didn't seem too concerned about her eye(as she has seen it several times), but told me to bring her in anyway. We have an appt. tomorrow morning. I cleaned around here eye really good before I posted this, & it seems to be lightening in color, but maybe I am just seeing things. Hopefully, the vet can tell me what this is.

You can see in this picture, *her* right eye(the one on the left as you are looking at it) does look different. You can see a little gunk there. Her eye looks squinchy because she woke up from a nap from the flash from the camera(I took one pic after another). Her mouth is all drooly, too. That's why she looks, weird. You can sort of see the darker coloring. I'll see if I can find another pic that it shows bettter in.

Beautiful cat and lovely blue eyes too
Good that you've got an appointment with the vet tomorrow. I think she may have been scratched by your other cat or maybe there's a bit of an infection going on. My cats sometimes get that too and usually it is because they've been scrapping. It usually clears up overnight. Could even be that she's maybe got a piece of dust in it that's irritated it. If you clean her eyes, do it with a damp cotton-wool ball or pad and only use one pad for one eye, a fresh pad for the other. This helps to stop any infection spreading to the other eye.

Hope she gets on OK with the vet tomorrow.

Here's another picture I just took(the other one was a little older).

You can see(the photo is kinda bad, I know) that here eyes have that pinkish color around them. They always look like that. Her right eye(again, the one on the left in the pic) looks a little darker. Maybe you can't see it, but I can.

Yep, I'm a sociologist-at-heart. Didn't read the word "cat" the first time, and was going to be all indignant...

No, I wouldn't do that! I don't want to offend anyone who isn't the same color as I am. Everyone here has such valuable info, no matter what color there skin is!
That did make me laugh when I read it, though!

check with the vet - Pixel gets eye gunk on a regular basis. altho it sometimes flares into a herpes problem, i usually just clean it away. Twitch's could be something minor or the beginnings of something more problematic. [Pixel's not white, but the area around the inner corner of her right eye is!]

The vet had to push our appt. back from yesterday to this morning. There was an emergency that took her all day yesterday. Twitch's eye was really yucky this morning. She had puked three times in the night(which turned out to be hairballs-I've never seen her have them). She wasn't really interested in her food. I was really concerned because I have been volunteering at the HS & they lost quite a few cats & kittens due to something. Thankfully it was distemper which she is vaccinated for, not something she isn't vaccinated for. It was sad. Tue I played with some kittens, Thur they were dead.

The vet gave me some Vetrachloracin to put in her eye twice a day until it gets better. She also fave me some cat lax for the hairballs. She has been eating since we got home from the vet. Her eye is already looking better. She isn't very active & is hissy towards Lily, but Lily swats at her eye & makes it hurt.
