I guess i knew you would take this personally. I am sorry that you did. But isnt that the great thing about the US? good old first amendment.
I will give you credit though, blanket bans are not a good thing.
You are assuming that i have never seen a responsible owner who owns cougars or bobcats or tigers etc and am some moron making grand statements. Fairly similar my thoughts about you and your emotional outburst. "
There should be such strict guidelines and regulations for exotic pet owners and breeders in general that only the truly deserving and caring can be breeders of any animals. If you want to take this statement as me meaning everyone, go ahead, I know as well as you that there are caring responsible people. This site is full of them. However, you cannot trust that people, given the freedom of the law to do what is in the sprit of the law. It is only the letter of the law that matters to uphold justice.
It is obvious that money as a requirement for licensing or to buy an exotic is no limiting factor (such as ms Hilton or the exotic hunt farms in TX).
I am sure you have seen or heard about these exotic cat farms in the west. Where they do the same as you, take in a captive exotic animal that is semi-domesticated. Treat it with love and affection, only to release it for someone with a gun to kill it shortly after it has left its cage. Its legal. Why not do it. It is within the letter of the law. You by your statements condone this. You don’t want to ban exotics. You called the bans useless.
I know that most are born in captivity, How did they get that way? from owners who are not responsible or are responsible and beyond their means or persons who have to much money (etc) thus the cycle begins with generations of semi-domesticated wild animals that never had the chance to be free.
These are wild animals. Not your average dog and cat domesticated from the wild by thousands of years of contact with man.
Suddenly an animal that roams over miles(instinctually) is now taken and placed into a cage that is limited by the amount of fencing he/she can afford.
Do you revel in the majestic creature you know possess behind that fence? That’s the first thing I noticed about your sig. Those beautiful cats and their fences. WHen they pace up and down your cages for hours, how does that make you feel? Does that animals beauty serve itself or your own wants. Do you think that the home you provide it is better than what it had/could have had in the wild is better?
You may be saving the animal from a horrible fate, for that i commend you. You may be the best example of exotic ownership in the world and I certainly hope that you are.
That does not justify taking an exotic animal of any sort out of its habitat for someone’s own personal enjoyment.
