How do spayed females react towards young kittens usually? Hope is very bonded with Meeka yet I don't know what will happen when Meeka finally has her kittens. Will Hope feel any mothering instinct too?

How long should they be kept seperate?

Some do some don't but I always keep my girls seperate when having kittens. Hope might accidentally lay on one of the kittens or feel too motherly toward the kittens and take one away, ect.
For the best interests on the mother and her kittens I recommend a large kittening cage. Let her have them in there and keep them all in there untill the kittens are old enough to be able to wander/play supervised. If Hope can see the kittens in the cage she'll have a chance to get used to them but she won't be able to accidentally harm them or get in the way of momma's duties.

I need to figure out what to do for a kittening pen. I've had so many ideas and still don't know which I will do. I took care of a mom and 3 week + kittens so I kind of know the messy factor when they are moving around. But what to do... I also have a whole spare bedroom that can be hers if necessary. I haven't made up my mind on anything yet.

I also know some sort of containment is better because kittens are very good at getting under things and going to the bathroom!

Can you build? My husband and I built a very large kittening cage. The back, side walls and floor are covered with linolium for easy claen up and the front has double screened doors that can open up wide for easy access. We took the doors off the closet and put the cage in there so it's not in the way. Ii'll see if I can locate some pics of it.

Wow! Very nice! I might try to get my dad to build me something. He has a huge shop for his carpentry hobby. He is always less than thrilled with my cat projects though
. Of course pictures help so he might be much more inclined if he sees something. Thanks.

If you'd like I can get a picture of the whole thing that way he has an idea.

We keep our babies seperated from all other cats apart from their mother until about four weeks old. Then they come out in their pen into the lounge.
