Licking your face?

My cat licks my face, but it's more then that. It's like she's trying to clean me. She especially likes to do it when I have a little stuble. Just wondering if any of you have the same experiences with your pets and what do you think it means?

My cat when I was little used to clean me all the time, my hair and my face.

Our new kitten loves to sniff and kiss my husband's beard and mustache.

Bijou loves to lick my nose and eyelids. The eyelid cleaning really hurts!

Cats groom each other, and us. My cats lick my face, hands, and arms all the time. It actually hurts occaisonally because of their sand paper tongues but I find it endearing.

One of my cats used to lick my husbands stubble and he would whine that they irritated his skin, so he uses this as an escuse to keep his goatee! I like to think its their way of showing affection!

Lily loves to keep me clean. She licks my face, hands(I have to wear gloves at night to prevent her from licking the irritated parts of my skin), & my feet. Well, she quit licking my feet since I kicked her in my sleep(I woke up when she squealed as I kicked her). It is very sweet of her, & I found out she absolutely loves it is I return the favor. I keep pre-moistened cat bath wipes all over the house, & frequently clean her in return. lol People think I am crazy when they see cat wipe boxes next to almost every Kleenex box in the house!

Gilbert is the same. He plops himself on my chest when I'm watching TV and licks anything he can get at. He also sits on the back of the couch and licks my hair. It can be a little annoying but he is learning not to do it so much now.

Ailey will ( if you can sit through the whole thing) lick your entire face ears and neck lol

I agree this is normal, KC loves to lick my husbands hands and my forehead and eyelids when I sit on the couch and she is on the top cusion part of it. I agree w/Yosemite, the eyelids are killer.

KC seems to even enjoy it and want to do it, because i'll start to pull away and she'll stop me with her paw, almost like a "wait, I missed a spot". It sort of remids me of gorillas, how they pick each others fur and spend time with each other that way, cats lick us.

Reno, who I'll swear was a loyal guard dog in a past life, loves to bathe me. I take it as a sign that he is caring for me because I am his family. Interestingly, as the benign alpha cat, he also bathes the other cats. He used to bathe Rocky off the bed. And Sam, who has a massive crush on him, regularly walks up to him and puts her head under his chin for him to bathe her. He will grudgingly bathe her a couple of times, and then strongly hints that she should be on her way. She doesn't always take the hint in time, though! LOL.

Sleeves licks marks face everynight when he has stubble. It sounds disgusting when Im lying beside them but its funny as anything

For a while I joked that I should change Bakker's name to Licker!!! He gives us kitty facials all the time. He grooms the others too!!!

Yep. Miya licks my face, hands, arm pits, neck, chest and ears. Either she loves me, she thinks I'm really dirty, or she's plotting to lick me to death.

I always though this "cat grooming us" thing was a conspiracy until 2 nights ago.

Mitts woke me up at 5am by giving me a FULL facial!

It was soooo cute and really didn't bother me at all, until he decided to bit my chin. Then it wasn't so cute.

I get groomed by Maggie May every morning when it's breakfast time!

not all cats do this . I have two cats, one does, and one doesnt. IMO it is most definitely a sign of affection, and contentedness. I read once somewhere that cats think of everything whether it is human, a dog etc, as other cats, bigger cats, strange looking cats. In other words, to a cat, we are all cats. So since cats often groom each other, it is not surprising to me that they sometimes like to groom the other "cats" in their little kingdom too.

nice to know they love us so much! to bad their tongues aren't alittle softer. I read that aswell sbw, i thought that was really interesting

Harley does the same thing, when I get home from work he will come and cuddle with me, and lick my face until I pull away, sometimes it hurts--especially around the eyes!

the eyelids licks hurt sooo much!!!! espeically i have sensitive and allergic eyes, sometimes my eyes get very itchy and starting to tear after she licked me...but i still let her do it..cuz i'm really happy that she loves me this much..

My cat Indy would groom my roommate (her owner) all the time, she would bathe his neck and ears. She loved men, any man who came to visit got a grooming or a snuggle. Women she wasn't so fond of except me of course. With me she would only do my eyebrows as I have long hair and whenever she tried to groom me, the hair got tangled in her tongue. The other one, Neko, loves to lick my legs just after I have showered. I don't know why, one would think they would be less likely to lick when I taste soapy as opposed to salty. Oh well, she's a weird one anyway.
