None of my cats seem to be interested in breeding. I leave the light on in the outside pen/outside house for enough hours (more then 12) a day. Could it be that it's just too cold outside? If I bring them inside would they breed? I didn't have this problem last winter because I had my stud and queen inside the house and they bred in December.
It dosent get that cold here in Sacramento CA.

It's worth a try!
How do you keep your studs from spraying up the house?

But you could try it - it certainly would hurt.
Im sure it's pretty much the same as breeding other types of cats

I brought them in. They don't look happy about it but we'll see how it goes.
My stud is not used to being in a cage. It's a really large cage (6' tall x 4' wide X 6' long) but he's used to having his nice large stud house and his outdoor run.

I"m wondering if the bengels cycles are more like domestic cats or are they more like the wild cat? Wild cats wouldn't breed till February for spring kittens.

And I'd say until the male is comfortable inside, he probably won't breed.

Most of the time thats true but if the female comes into heat they are usually more than willing to breed. Are you sure they aren't just being secretive with breeding? I know Savannah's won't breed if anyone is around.

No I don't think that's the problem my male did not care before who was around. He just seems very disinterested.

When I first got the male I had him inside because the outside stud enclosure wasn't built yet. It took about two weeks for them to start breeding.
The breeder did tell me they bred there before he came here but I don't know if that was accurate because she had the kittens on the right date for her to have gotten pregnant when I noticed them breeding 2 weeks after they were here.

I do have to add that my male is pretty timid. If the females tell him to back off he will. He probably just isn't trying to breed because they won't go into heat now that winter is coming around.

I'm confused.. Your female isn't in heat? If shes not in heat then she won't want to breed like you said. Its a bad time of year for that.

Yes, cats sometimes do breed when they aren't in heat and cats can get pregnant while not in heat. My previous two litters my queen was not in heat when she got pregnant as my male is usually pretty pesky about breeding. He dosen't give up. When she says no-he backs off and tries again and again. My problem is that my cats won't go into heat and my male is disinterested (which is not at all like him, normally he trys to breed weather the female is in heat or not but he will back down if she tells him 'no'). My original post was asking if taking them inside would help. I am under the impression that keeping them in at least 12 hours of daylight will cause them to cycle even in the winter. I've been doing that with lights but I think because it's colder outside they still won't breed.
I've brought them in and we'll see how it goes.

Are there "seasons' in tropical areas? ALCs come from places like the phillipines. I wouldn't think that there would be much of a difference in temperature in a tropical area, but there would be a difference in the amount of daylight.

Wow that's great! My adult male acts like he's fighting fires!!
I can't keep them all in the house or they'd have to be caged. I don't want a bunch of inbreeding going on here.
I've got two males and 4 females. Only 3 are adults but one that I kept from a litter is almost old enough to breed so I don't want her 'hooking up' with daddy. My other male is almost ready too and I've definatly got plans for each one so I don't want them breeding with the wrong cat.

Yes I have two females in with him. One is a newer cat to my cattery that i've had for a few months. Im wondering if that has anything at all to do with my problem. Last litter my other queen didn't get prego for two months after I put her in with the male. Im not sure what the deal is with her. The difference is that at least last time my male was interested in breeding. Now he's not.

Wow I'm learning all kinds of things. I really didn't think a female would take the advances of a male if she wasn't in heat.

I know Kai said their males don't spray. Thats really great because I'm dealing with a spraying female, fortunately its only when shes in heat.

Our females mark/spray when they're in heat too. Only then though. But, yeah, our females have been more troublesome with that than our males ever have been.
I've never had any of our females become pregnant out of heat, and the opportunity has been there at times. Never has happened, any advances (if any were made) by the males were rejected.
