So i want to take in a pregnant kitty, this will be my very first time delivering and I'm scared to death lol.. Do most cats need help with birthing? I read that one sticky note about pregnancy in cats and i was reading about the we need to make sure the mom chews the cord so kitty doesn't suffocate. So do most cats need help or not?

Most cats that have been pregnant on this board haven't needed help...but it's good to have your vet number nearby just in case.

I would agree, most cats give birth just fine with little intervention needed from humans. But it is good to not only have the vet aware of the cat and the number available but also to know what to do in case something does goes wrong. Your vet can advise you of what you will need.

Its instinct. They will naturally want to eat the placenta and its usually attatched with the cord.

There are techniques you should read up about just in case the mom decides not to do it herself (rare but it happens). You should know how to do a downward swing to clear fluid out of the lungs and how to rub them down to stimulate breathing. I've been doing a lot of reading as I'm preparing for a future pregnancy with my girl. Also just in case the cord is chewed to closely (causing bleeding) its good to tie it off if there is bleeding.

However, most of the time they are fine to do it themselves. Often people get involved when it really isn't necessary.
