i have a 14 yr.old indoor cat,who recently caught a cold.i isolated him from the others ,so it wouldnt be passed on.he has a low grade fever,is aliitle dehydrated ,so i started him on amoxi drops and pedilyte.yesterday he was up and eating and drinking on his own, today he has not.he also has not passed stool for about 5 days.when i took his temp, tonight i noticed the thermometer was not going in far enough,so i lubed up my finger and manipulated alot of stool out of him,i also noticed his anal glands are impacted, i tryed expressing them but nothing is coming out.i know everyone is going to say take him to a vet,at this time i can not ,money problems have come up,,and my disability check is gone already ,to bills.anyone have any idea what it could be,i also gave him a warm water enema,to see if he could pass the rest on his own ,he tried but nothing came out.if he does worsen by tomorrow, and does not eat or drink for me,i will have to get money from a family member to take him in to a vet, last night he was sitting on my lap and rubbing his head on me.i have worked for vets before ,
so i know im doing the best i can for him right now.

i forgot to mention, that he is in a room with a warm vaporizer going ,because when all this started out it was sneezing and watery runny eyes.his eyes stopped running and his sneezing has calmed down alot.

I am so sorry your baby is not doing well - but you said it already - You Need To Come Up With The Money For A Vet Visit even if he is looking better.

Hope all goes well!!

At least you have worked for a vet so you aren't completely clueless. Most of us haven't so we probably won't be much help with advise. Hopefully someone will come along shortly with some help, but you might just have to call a family member. Maybe a vet near you will do a payment plan. Then you might not have to borrow quite so much from a family member. Good luck!

You need to get this cat to the vet. There is an article about what to do when you can't afford a vet in the Health section of the website (not the forums)

I keep this article as a favorite in my folder ...

http://www.thecatsite.com/Cats/Cat_H...erinarian.html

And I would just like to add ... once this is over with and you've been able to get this kitty treated ...

Start a weekly savings program. It doesn't have to be much, toss the change in your wallet into a cookie jar. If you do this every day, it adds up quickly. Shave a couple dollars off your grocery budget to throw in twice a month - for a higher yield, clean out a closet or attic and have a garage sale, sell stuff on ebay or locally at flea markets. But start saving for your pet's health care. It is equally as important as budgeting for their food, litter and other needs.

I have an elderly cat in a similar position. I too have little money to spare but have managed to scrape up enough (by borrowing) to pay for her vet bill. I'm very lucky as the vet I use I've been using for years and he's reduced the bill drastically for me. Don't lose hope for your little cat. My Lucy's older and very, very ill but I have hope in my heart that she will recover. If she does not, then I know I've done my very best for my little friend.

thank you all so much, what a hard thing to go though, saying good bye to a friend that you have had so long,he was such a sweet boy.my sister and i were with him when he departed this world i hope he knows how much i loved him ,and how hard i tried to make him well, because i thought he just had a cold,i spent many hours with him, force feeding him pedilyte and talking with him.at one time i thought he was getting better, because he was up and sitting on my lap and rubbing his head on the cage i had him in.maybe its normal they have their good days and bad days.he was a much loved kitty, thank you all so so much,it means alot.tina

Yes, your kitty is at peace now. I am very sorry for your loss. I think you made the right decision to let him go peacefully. Condolences, Tina.

I'm so sorry you had to say Goodbye to your sweet boy. Tough as it is, you have done the right thing -- you have given him peace. You know now there wasn't any way you could have helped him recover. Please be gentle with yourself. It's so hard. My thoughts are with you.

RIP sweet boy
