What a heartwarming Thanksgiving story Tanya.

Brody has touched all of our lives & we are with you all the way.

Oh, my! How lucky Brody is to have found you! If not, he would have died from the disease. Be sure to keep his activity as low key as possible over the next few weeks. I'm sure he'll come out of this just fine!

We are keeping him as inactive as possible. That is the hard part. Brody seems so happy to have a family and wants to play with us, but we have to keeep it limited. Yesterday for example, after his vet visit I was going to take him to the dog park. We had to cancel that. It won't be until almost August before Brody is able to enjoy being a normal dog. He doesn't go through the final treatments until June and then the following 4-6 weeks are very critical as the worms will be dying and traveling through his arteries and veins. There is a chence they can block the passages. He has to remain as inactive as possible during that time. I was reading that a dog with heart worms could die suddenly during playtime or excitement. That is such a scary thought to me and it is staying in the back of my mind.

Thank you again for all of your wonderful words. I felt so much better after reading them. It helps me to feel confident when reading the posts. I hope that by August I am able to report a clean bill of health. I also read that when a dog is rid of heart worms the owner will notice a drastic improvement in the energy level and activity of the dog. Brody is a very active boy with the nasty worms, I bet he is going to be keeping us on our toes once he is all better.

I plan to take some new pictures of Brody this afternoon. I wish I had my camera on me this morning. He and Dori were sniffing noses with the the baby gate between them! It ended when Brody thought it was a good idea to kiss Dori, she ran back over the gate

What a horrible diagnosis! I am so sorry! How wonderful that he ended up with you, so he could begin treatment! Bless you for taking that little guy in. I guess that clinches it, if he did have previous owners, they were lousy! Now he is all yours!

Get better soon, little guy!

We still have a week and a half before we are able to start treatments. Brody is doing well, except for a runny nose.

It is very hard not being able to play with him. He is supposed to take it easy, but try to tell him that! He has the cutest little face and he carries his toys around hoping that we will throw them. I do on occasion, but he gets out of breath so fast. I let him lay with me on the day bed the other night and he kept moving and playing around. After only a few minutes of that he was panting, and we weren't even doing much. I wish he could understand that this is for his own good
When I don't play with him he looks at me with the saddest eyes and plops onto the floor and mopes. Poor little guy

Poor Pumpkin! Just think how you'll make it up to him when he's all cured. He'll have you tuckered out from all the playing and running round!

OH! I just saw this, Tanya..

Poor Brody but I really think it no coincidence that he showed up at YOUR door...
Bless your heart

Heartworms can be tricky, but not necessarily fatal...
The investment you will put into him (and have) WILL come back to you 100 fold.
Believe that

Take care...

Tanya, I'm so sorry you and Brody are having to go through this, but he's definitely in the right place and with your care and positive attitude will come through this just fine. Sending healing vibes and prayers to the little sweetie.

Brody is actually the new dog
Dori (my kitty) is thankfully doing just fine.
Thank you, and everyone else for continuing to keep Brody in your thoughts.

I have been looking around for suggestions on something to keep him occupied (preventing boredom) without causing him to over exert himself. I saw Kong toys for dogs that you fill with treats for them to get out on their own. But if I know Brody he will be running all through the house with it. If anyone has any ideas I am open to anything.

Tanya, you have me thinking of Brody all the time now...
I think a Kong is a great idea...A good lay still game to keep him stationary is to spoon some peanut butter onto the insides of the kong mixed in with a few kibbles of food.
It should keep him busy for awhile trying to get the peanut butter out.
It also works their minds..
Another mind stretching toy is the Buster Cube.

Brody is a great dog.
In the beginning I would have never thought that I was going to keep him. It's funny how things work out.

You have such great advice, I love the peanut butter idea. I think I am going to pick him up a Kong tomorrow. If he likes that I will pick up a Buster Cube too so he has a variety.
Once he is all better I have all sorts of plans, number one is the dog park.

I just saw this thread and wanted to tell you that Brody is in my thoughts. He is a lucky dog to have found such a wonderful home.
