So, Rowan is getting his big kitty teeth, but he has two sets of fangs in his upper jaw. How long should I wait until I take him to the vet to have them pulled? The new teeth are in farther than the old ones, right next to them, so I'm worried that the roots never went away. They've been like that for maybe a week, and he's seemed a bit out of sorts, and biting his sister and I. Could the two sets of teeth be causing him pain?

You know, I'm a human and not a cat, but I had the same thing when I was little. I had to go to the dentist and have almost ALL of my baby teeth pulled, and for some odd reason, they had the long roots like adult teeth, which my mother unfortunately saved and showed to any and everyone who wanted to see them, until at 18 I took the teeth and threw them away, without her permission.

Maybe the same thing has happened to your kitten.

This perfectly normal for many kittens. They are probably bothering him a little bit, but the baby fans will fall out shortly. His biting is just "teething".

This is totally normal. The permanent teeth push the milk teeth out but there is usually a couple of weeks of "overlap" when they have double fangs. If you look at any kitten right around his 5 month birthday you will see this. The gums are usually a little red and irritated but this doesn't last too long. If the double fangs are still there a month from now, a vet visit would be in order. But in the meantime, there's no need to worry.

If they are still there at the time he is altered, they can pull them then with no problems.

Baker, Betsy & Scampi all had the same thing happen, lasted about 2 weeks before the baby teeth fell out.
Rowan should be fine.

Andy also when through the same thing. When the first one fell off I found blood on one of his toys, but I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t find the tooth. The second happened when I was playing with him, he was inside a box, he was doing something strange with my hand; he wasnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t biting me. As he came out of the box I heard a thin noise on the floor, it was the tooth.
And there was no blood anywhere; I think he hurt himself playing when the first one fell off, the reason I found blood. Since Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m not a mother, it was a fantastic experience.
Don't worry.

Lola
was just like that and I remember being freaked out as well when I saw her teeth! If I recall correctly, they fell out when she was 4.5-5 months old.

Yeah, Bella's fell out about a month ago, in my sheets. That was fun, when I was all tired and stuck my feet in.

Thanks for the sanity check.

Its normal
. I forgot to get pictures of Meeka's but here are Hopes:

It kind of makes sense since they would need these teeth to tear meat. I know not all kitties keep their first before the other is fully in but it does make a lot of sense.

yeap... it is normal for growing up kittens to hv 2 fangs. cats r like babies whereby they need to 'change' their baby teeth to adult ones... the fang will eventually fall off... no worries there...

Like it's been said, if they aren't gone by the time your kitty is altered, they will pull them out for you. My cat's baby teeth fell out a week before he got neutered, and we're going through the same thing with our puppy. It's really kind of nifty how they lose their teeth, and get loose ones, just like humans. Hahahaha I'm always checking my puppy's mouth for new loose teeth.

Small breed puppy's are the worst about not loosing them on their own. We pull more baby teeth from samll bredd puppy's than anything else combined. I just last week pulled 2 of my poodle puppy's teeth under anesthesia.
