Dirty Santa

Have any of you played this grab-bag game? I love it and I hope I get to play this year. Heres how it goes:

Everyone purchases a grab bag gift with a price limit. The limit should be low like $5.00 or so. It can be something nice or it can be a gag gift.
Names are put into a hat. Someone draws the first name. That person gets to pick any gift.
He opens the gift and picks another name from the hat.
The second person gets to pick from the unopened gifts OR he can steal the 1st person's gift. If he chooses an unopened gift he must open it. He draws another name and the third person has the choice of either opened gift OR an unopened one. And it goes on and on like that.
If your gift is stolen, you choose another gift. It can be an unopened one or you can steal a gift. You are not allowed to get the same gift twice.

I have seen gifts such as Christmas decorations, cheap red wine, and even a TV dinner!

Yeah we play that at our church...everything is basically the same as yours but a gift can only be touched 3 times so the third person who gets it, gets to keep the gift...its a lot of fun

yeah that game is so much fun i played it where i use to work with other coworkers

We didn't have that rule and the first time I played there was about 25 people. The game went on for a loooong time, but it was fun. People were hiding their gifts too.

Oh yeah - nothing to do with the game, but same party - "Bubba Claus" showed up and jumped in the pool (we're in Florida) fully dressed with hat sunglasses and all.

We play it at our work but instead of names we draw numbers. We also have the rule of touch three times. The first year I didn't think it would ever end so that's when we included the three touch. We don't really have a limit so there some really nice stuff.

we do it at christmas - we call it a chinese gift exchange - i don't know why?

Not sure either. It probably originated in China, I am guessing? Anyway, usually a Chinese gift exchange is the same thing, BUT you don't steal from other people, it's not really a game like 'Dirty Santa' is.

Yup. We do it at our staff Christmas lunch -- coming up on Monday -- I'll have to get my thinking cap on over the weekend. Lots of fun.
