Ok I am so excited and worried at the same time!!!! I am putting in a slip for the day off now. It has been like 16 years since I had Chichi spayed, I don't remember anything
How long do males take to recover? Do I need to watch out for anything? I am such a worry-wart LOL. Thank you in advance for any input

Murphy says, I'm getting WHAT done!!!!!!!!!???? LOL

Lots of prayers and vibes for Murphy! My Mom's kitty got neutered a few months ago and he bounced back within a couple of days. Just make sure he has an empty stomach before he goes in for surgery. Don't worry. He will be fine.

Males recover pretty quickly, and a follow-up visit isn't (usually) necessary. They might be a bit tired that evening, but back to normal by the next morning. Good luck to Murphy!

it's my understanding that the boys actually do better than the girls with the de-sexing. both Cable & Java were running around the next day like nothing happened after their spays - Murphy will probably do the same. do you have to leave him overnight, or can you bring him home the same day?

Lily will have to be spayed within the next couple of months, so I will be in the same boat! lol I think it is great that you can take the day off work to be with him. I know my parents let me stay home from school the day Twitch got spayed. Even with a female, recovery doesn't take long. Twitch was running around the house crazy the evening we brought her home(same day of her surgery).

I hope all goes well with Murphy! BTW- He's gorgeous!
I hope Lily is as pretty as he is when she is all grown up!

my cat was spayed nov 17 2005 if he doesnt stay overnight keep him confined ..he was groggy from being knocked out and fell over a few times the effects can last till the next moring ..as for recovery he was up and walking around the next day ..males are a lot quicker to recover... ohh and as for my spay lol He made kittens before he got fixed but they will be going to inside homes and responsible pet owners

The cats house, we just pay the mortgage..
Honestly, I know how worried you are, Sleeves got neutered 3 weeks ago and I was so scared before hand but dont worry, once he's woken up properly, he'll be groggy the first night, he wont be any different whatsoever.
When everyone said to me, oh he wont even know whats happened i didnt believe them, but its so true!
Good luck let us know how he gets on x

Oh what a sweet kitten. (I love tabbies!)
He should do just fine...and may not even act like anything happened at all. I imagined my acted a bit stiff legged the fist day they were home...but they both played and by the floowing day were running and tearing through the house.
When a male is fixed they only have to cut through skin...where a female is through the muscle and more of a surgery.

Males are up and back to playing and eating just as soon as the anesthesia wears off. They just have two cuts in the skin, each about 1 inch long, so they are just a little sore. It's not painful for them to run around and stuff so they're up to their old tricks pretty much immediately!

Thanks everyone for the info on boys after they are brought home! I was worried about him running around(he is crazy!) I was'nt sure if the surgery was the same for both male and females, thank you so much for the info! I forget to ask if he would be coming home that day, or if he had to stay overnight, so I will call the vet this morning and see. My wonderful boss granted my request for the day off so everythings good to go,except my nerves LOL LOL. Thank you again everyone for your reassurance and experiences they really helped me, and especially thank you for the good vibes

He'll come home the same day. I dropped Sleeves off at 9am, was told to call at 2 and then picked him up at 4 and he just slept all night.
The worst bit for me now, looking back was not being able to feed him after 10pm the night before. We were feeding him out of our hands to make sure he ate as he didnt know his food was about to be taken away.... made me upset whenever he went to go and get food and there was nothing...
I think he's forgotten all about it now and remember you are the one picking him up from this scary place and bringing him home so you're the good one
