Hi, I want to get my cat some raw chicken bones, but want to make sure--what is safe (and healthy) for him?

Wings, necks, backs, are good. I tend to avoid the "weight bearing" bones, as they are the hardest and pose the highest potentian risk of tooth damage.

Good luck

Hi Julia,

Thanks! Also are gizzards good to feed? What raw "by-product" parts are safe and healthy?

I like to give gizzard once and a while for the teeth. They are so chewy. I think they are fine in moderation. Its when that is all the pet food industries use that makes them bad. At the store I go to they have gizzard and heart packages. This is great because heart is one of the highest sources of taurine. Liver is also good but it gives Meeka diarreah. I think if I were to mix it in in proper portion with the rest of the raw food then she would be fine. It dosen't bother my other kitties either.

Just be sure to supervise the first time you give raw chicken with bone in. Your cat may not know how to crunch up the bones good before swallowing. And if that's not done, there's a chance of choking.

OK, thanks for your suggestions...yes, that's my concern about the cat choking. But if he doesn't know how to crumble it up and starts choking, what can I do to help? Maybe I should just not chance it.

Well, if he doesn't know how to chew it, you just grab it away before he tries to swallow it.
