I'm not even sure what to call this, but my cat Starbucks seems to make little chirping noises quite a bit. It doesn't really seem strange or anything to me, I was just looking to better understand my kitty.
What do his chirps mean?

By the way, here's a picture of him:

Usually cats do that when they are excited. When they see a bird outside. My cats do it all the time!

Let me just say what a cutie!!! My cats, also, do this when they see birds, or if there is a bug in the house they can't get at.

Yup pretty normal. BTW Starbucks is a really handsome little fellow. It must be hard to not want to cuddle him every minute.

I love kitty chirps. Dexter does it when he gets really excited watching birds. Starbucks is adorable.

By the way...Welcome to TCS.

My girls chirp too when they see a bird or squirrel outside. I think they're just excited.

He reminds me of my Pooka, sooooooo cute

Mine chirp too, usually at bugs.

Pokemon used to quack. It made me laugh so much, he's try to miaow with his mouth wide open and what would come out was a "quack"

What a sweet kitten! My girls do it when they get really worked up about something - they just seem to HAVE to let out a noise! It's like their teeth chatter involuntarily. The boys haven't started it yet.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I've been thinking about when my cat "chirps", and I've come to this conclusion: The majority of his chirps occur when I'm in the kitchen clinking dishes around, then he does it a lot. It also seems like he chirps when he jumps off the dryer, where his food is. The chirp seems to be right when he lands on the floor.

Your right about the landing on the floor bit, when Sleeves does this I call it his 'suspension squeeking'

Julian used to make that chirp or clicky sound when he was about to pounce on a toy. He was the first cat I saw do that and I was confused when he first did it.

This is sooooo funny! Zazu does this all the time. I mean at the drop of a hat!
He will just look at you, tilt the head and chirp!!!!

We get a laugh out of it every time.

I will say that we have not had the chance to see him interact with birds, but I can't wait till spring!

Cute kitty there!

Every cat I've known makes chirping sounds. When they're really interested and excited (bugs, birds, etc.) the chips turn into a kind of drumroll series of chirps.

We're still waiting for our 7 mo. old Junebug to make normal sounds. So far the only vocalizations are extremely high pitch loooong squeals, and talking in what is best described as racoon noises - whirs and whistles. No real meows yet.

She might have been raised by racoons, we're not sure, and the rescue center isn't telling us anything.

Have you looked to see if there are any skid marks?

Beautiful kitten
Is he by any chance an Ocicat?
