Hi everyone!
I have a kitten who is 4 mos old who we just got 3 weeks ago. When we got him, he had an upper respitory(sp) infection, and it still hasnt gone away.
I dont know if it's the food im giving him or if it's the cold, but man his poop reeks!!! He goes at least 2x a day as i can tell right now. I am also wondering if im giving him the right food...i was looking somewhere that baby food was good for kittens?? Ive been giving him 1-2x a day stage 2 baby food, beef and turkey...he really likes it alot. I got some purina kitten wet food, but he dosnt seem to be intrested in it. The dry food that im giving him is purina kitten formula. This is my first cat, so i hope im doing things right!!

It's most likely an intolerance to the food - probably can't handle all that filler (corn, wheat, soy) - try to ugrade him to a premium brand that should make a hugh difference.

Preium Brands
============

Royal Canin
Eukanuba
Nutro
ProPlan

However when switching please do it slowely - integrate a little of the new food into the current food and continue until only the new food exists. Too fast a switch can also result in loos stool / diareah.

Has he had a stool test done at the vet? Was he on antibiotics for the infection? I don't know if antibiotics might play a part in smell. There are a lot of parasites that can make poo stink to high heaven. However some odor is normal too.

Both of my kittens have stinky poo. First just one, now the other. It has gotten better with time. They had both gone to the vet (for other reasons) and they were fine, so their lil tummies may have just been adjusting to whatever. While I still have to light a nice smelling candle after they do their business..it's not nearly as bad as it used to be!

Yes, definitely feed them a better food. If you can only get to a grocery store or discount store, I'm a big fan of purina one. They should also be checked for worms. Additionally, if they were on antibiotics for their colds, that can cause very runny and stinky poo.
I don't know what your situation is, but cleaning out the cat box more often also helps, as well as adding a deoderizer. As long as kitty isn't bothered by them.

A better diet will definitely help... also, are you giving your kitty any dairy products? (ie: a saucer of milk or bit of cheese)... most cats are lactose intolerant and when they get ahold of some dairy their poopies will be CRAZY stinky!!!! Oliver is definitely lactose intolerant, but loves milk... occasionaly I'll get him some lactose free milk as a treat and he ALWAYS sneaks a lick or two from my occasional cereal bowl and I know a stinky poo will shortly come afterwards (he only ever takes a few licks and I don't eat cereal all that often, so it's definitely a treat only!) Try switching that diet and see how it goes!

I've switched him to some really expensive brands (the can is $2.49 each and no discount for buying a tray
) and after he got used to one, his mess still really stinks
 It's gotten to the point where I can't breathe in the same room as the one he's done his mess in, and if I am, even if I'm sleeping I'll wake up. Bleck.
