I have noticed both Lily and Tiger have been sneezing the past few days. SHould I be worried? They arent breathing heavy and are eating normally and drinking fine. I don't have the money to take them to the vet because of Christmas and BOTH my son's birthdays withen 3 weeks of each other. Any advice or home remedies? Thanks

Believe me I know how you feel about the money thing, it seems like they always get sick at penny-pinching times lol But they probably need to see a vet, maybe you could work out some payment plan? It kinda sounds like the beginings of a uri
other than a uri it could be just about anything! Have you used any new cleaning products? Have you put out your x-mas decorations yet? How dry is the air in your home? all these things could make them sneeze. If you have the heat on in your house buy or turn on a humidifier to bring some moisture back in the air so their little kitty sinuses don't dry out. I hope I helped you alittle
Let me know how they are feeling.

The vet's office that I used to work at said that if a kitty is sneezing with NO eye or nasal discharge, it's OK to just monitor them (i.e. make sure they continue to eat, drink, urinate & deficate normally). If discharge DOES occur, then they do need to see a vet as that is something that should be treated with antibiotics.

I agree with Amanda. I don't think there's a need for a vet visit at this point, based on your description of the situation. But if you have any doubts, or if they get worse, don't hesitate to see a vet. Most vets take credit cards.

Thanks Guys! I feel a little bit better now. We all have been a bit sick the last few days. With a cold, cough, congestion and a tiny touch of a stomach flu. Tiger seems to be getting better, but Lily is just know coming down with it. Maybe it's because of the change in weather we have had the last few weeks. Which brings me to another question, can you catch a cold from a cat, or vice versa?

We've just been in the same boat. Son & I both had colds and then the cat started sneezing too. Sneezed for about 3 days and then I noticed she was sleeping a lot and had a watery eye so off to the vets.
She's just started her 2nd course of meds.
Maybe your vet would defer payment to after christmas.
Coincidence that puss and people getting colds at the same time?
I'm begining to think not.

I'm a little concerned that both of them are sneezing. I believe uri is contageous, and that would explain why both are sneezing. We just had uri this month with both of our little ones. I really don't know if there are any home remedies.

It seems to me that in the fall and spring, all my cats sneeze. I'll almost bet they have allergies. However, if their eyes start having a discharge, then it's vet time.

Yeah allergies could be another explanation. DixieDarlin256, how often do they sneeze? And what's the pattern of sneezing (one sneeze at a time or a couple)?

It's a couple at a time, but luckily neither of them have sneezed in the last I'd say 24 hours, and there isn't any eye discharge. I'm the one who's coughin and sneezing and congested!
