My cat Bobby is pulling little bits of fur out from his back, roughly from the middle of spine down to the base of his tail. There doesn't seem to be any irritation on the skin but it does seem to be bothering him. Any idea why he might be doing this?

First question any change in food, home situation that could cause stress, do you have forced air heat? Second question has he been to the Vet lately?

If it is pure itchy skin a supplement of Omeg 3s should help.

I haven't changed his food and there is no change in environment. He went to the vet about 2 months ago and he was in perfect health then but will take him back if it doesn't clear up soon as it is clearly irritating him. We have gas central heating.

This is sometimes in response to pain. The best thing you can do for him is get him to a vet to be checked out. They can also do a skin scraping to see if he has parasites or dermatitis or an allergy.

Yeah think i'll have to take him to vets cos think it might be a skin complaint as i've just had another look at where he is doing it and it seems to be a bit scaly. Thanx for the advice.

A flea or food allergy would be very likely possibilities. A food allergy can develop even to foods he has been eating for a long time. Wheat, corn, and soy are the most likely culprits if it is a food allergy.
