I am a new member seeking urgent advice from anyone. My cat is 16 and has been ill (but happy) for a while. It has been obvious she has been ready to go in the last week, was going to take her to the vet this week but yesterday she went out as normal and has not come back. People have said to me that this is sometimes what cats do and they just find somewhere and lie down and go quietly. Dont know if they are just saying that to make me feel better. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Joss

When my cat was 16 she did exactly the same thing and i'm afraid it is true what people are saying that cats do sometimes go away to die. I really do hope your cat comes home to you though so you can take her to the vets and at least get the chance to say goodbye to her. I wish you all the best and please keep us posted with any news. Take care.

I am so sorry to hear that your kitty hasnt come home
but no they arent just saying this to make you feel better - thats exactly what cats have been known to do. They know their time to move on to a better place has come and they go and do it peacefully and quietly.

However - dont give up on your little one. I assume you have looked everywhere? could she be trapped somewhere? in a neighbours garage? in your garage? anywhere a cat can go?

but if she has passed to the rainbow bridge, I hope her passing indeed was peaceful and that she is playing with all the other rainbow bridge cats

When they are severely ill, they will go away, find a dark spot and just lie down. it is unfortunate that you let the cat out- this website may help you find her

Yeah sweetie I am sorry to say but it sounds like your kitty went to go make peace with herself. Alot of cats will do this when it is their time to go ( sorry if I did'nt make sense there, I was trying to be delicate with my wording) I hope this is not the case for you, but I don't want to give you false hope. I hope she is just on a mousecapade and will return soon. Best wishes and welcome to TCS btw

I have to agree with the others, Joss - there's a good chance that your cat went off to seek privacy for her final journey. However, you must try & find her, both the give yourself closure and to make sure that she just isn't stuck somewhere. Please keep us posted; we understand how sad and worried you must be.

Aww that is sooo sad! Too bad you let the cat out! If he comes back please please keep him inside. An old sick cat does not belong outdoors. Especially if the time is that close.

Thank you all for your kind words. My brother let Quito out as she was sitting at the door asking to be let out and he thought she had perked up. She loves going outside and its what she has always done. He is now feeling awful about it. We have searched everywhere we can think of and have all the neighbours keeping an eye out. It unfortunately looks like she has chosen to move on. We will keep searching. Joss x

Joss...your cat may be very scared. Have you thought about trying a humane trap??
