my cat goes to door when he wants to potty?

We live in the country on 23 acres. We were given a cat by our vet. She has always been outside. we have had her spayed. I have tried everything to train her to be an inside cat. I have confined her to a small area, used special kitty litter that guarantees to lure your kitty to the litterbox. I have put soil from outside in her litter box. She will hold it until she can't stand it anymore and go to the door to be let out to potty. Then she will come back inside. If I confine her she will either pee in her bed or on the floor. I have tried putting the cover on her box, taking the cover off. Anything I thought would work, doesn't. She has never, never used her litter box.My husband said he had a cat as a kid that was housetrained just like a dog. He went outside to potty and came back in. They never had a litterbox. Have any of you ever experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated. I am new to this board and want to say a big hello!

Well hey if your cat goes out to pee and comes straight back in like a dog then that is great for you! I wish my cats did this! I wouldn't feel comfortable letting them out all day or for a few hours even but just to pee. That is cool, no more litter buying for you!

Have you tried sand or just soil for litter??? She may just be set in her ways

Yep, tried soil. She just jumped right out of the box and peed.
