hello everyone,

I know i saw a posting on how to tell how old your cat might be but the link doesn't work anymore. Can anyone tell me how to determine how old my Maggie is? Someone told me if they have a pooch in their belly (Maggie has a small one) that it is an older cat? Any truth in that? I was told she is around 2 or 2 1/2.

Thanks as always!

I am sorry I don't know the link, but if you private message one of the moderators of this forum I am sure they will lend a hand

I don't believe a pouch on their belly has anything at all to do with their age. A spayed cat can get that, an overweight cat will have that. An overweight kitten can even have that. Most of my cats have that and they range from 1 year to 8 years old. (I have just switched them over to lite food because of it!)

It is really hard to tell with a cat if you haven't had it since a kitten.
Teeth can tell. Obviously if they are baby teeth then the cat is anywhere up to about 6 months or so. Adult teeth are about 6 months and older. The yellower the teeth could also indicate age but that can vary too depending on if the cat has ever had its teeth cleaned. Young cats could have bad teeth and old cats could have very very clean teeth.

You have to look at a lot of things together. Size, teeth, coat, weight. And that will only give you a some-what educated guess.
