Does this sound familiar to anybody? Just seeing if anyone knows this. I'll put up a simple poll.

*raises hand* I know who they are! I discovered them last year, and really liked what I heard, they've now become a staple at Christmastime. They've been getting quite a bit of play both at home and at work over the past few days!

My husband and I seen them in concert last December and we own all their CD's and DVD. My husband also waited in line all night and we got front row center tickets to see them 12-11!!

My 11 year old son loves them too, we have even started a new tradition of listening to them Christmas Morning while opening presents.

I knew! But I also learned a couple days ago.

I assumed it was a European group. Any details, since I'm too lazy to Google right now?

I got to see them in concert exactly last week. Fabulous show if you ever get the opportunity. I think it will be our running anniversary present to eachother. However, when they got to the part where they do "dead winter dead" i cried because of it's personal meaning.
really amazing. and they use the local string section of the orchestra, so it's really cool to see how they change the surface of the music, but not the actual songs. 3 1/2 hour show, and it's amazing!

Trans Siberian Orchestra is a side project started by various members of the group Savatage, also, in their early career known as Avatar. Savatage is a metal/hard rock band that was known for doing rock opera albums and works with an actual broadway composer to rearrange the music suitably for the various non-traditional instruments (electric guitar) and uses a stunning array of vocalists for a truly unique sound.

TSO was started when the Savatage album "Dead Winter Dead" was recognized as a tribute to Sarajevo, and that is when the Carol of the bells was transformed to "Christmas in Sarajevo."

The original band, Savatage was disbanded when Chris Oliva was killed by a drunk driver, however, there is always a tribute to him in every piece of TSO memorablilia, the guitar wrapped in roses. His brother, Jon Oliva still sings with TSO.
