I just got a new vet .. she is good with my dog and does holistic and convetional medicine... I asked about Zoeys shots, price for rabies and I think a 4 in one was fine but I asked about feline leukemia and was told I would have to get her tested via blood test .. my question is this normal?? I got Zoey a year ago at a shelter wouldnt she have been tested??? Also is this nessary for a cat who only see s two dogs and stays in the back yard??

With my vet it is normal if your just staring your cat on the leukemia shots they initially blood test to make sure they don't all ready have it.

The shelter that I work at does routinely test all incoming kitties for FeLV & FIV, but I know that that doesn't mean that all shelters do. However, they should keep some sort of records on the pets that they adopt out. Could you call them & ask if your baby was already tested?

The shelter I got my cat from told me they rarely test for it. They did test my cat for it because he came from hurricane katrina.

Keep in mind- Lola tested negative when she was at the shelter. I'm not sure what effect the vaccine would have on an already infected cat.

I also had to get Leo retested before I got his FeLV vaccine done.
