Hey guys, my nearly two month old adopted kitten has a patch of skin that has hair missing. It's probably less than an inch long and less than an inch wide... I noticed this atleast a week ago... There are no other places on her body where she has hair missing, and this patch of missing hair hasn't decreased in size.. Altough I have noticed on the same leg, the paw... has a little small cut.. I'm assumin' it's a cut because there's visible red under the hair... I'm not sure if this is related.. To make a long story short, this missing patch of hair... what could it be?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Sounds like a Fungal infection. Reya has one too. I'm waiting to get paid to take her to the vet. He normally recomends a double dosis of Program, but as she is so small I want him to take a look at her.

Although I'd ask a vet to take a look at your cat. It would be best for an expert to tell you

Thanks for your input, but yes.. it's a Saturday and i'm going to take her to the Vet on Monday.. to get vaccinated and de-wormed (she has no worms now, but to continue the dosage I believe?) and her first check up... I talked to the vet, he said... basically, to not worry for now.. because theres nothing I can do about it until I take her on Monday.. she's been active and playful since day one! Her stool has been solid and no worms.. she's been eating and drinking well.. so i'll see whats up on Monday =)

Please keep me updated on your baby, and good luck.. I hope Reya will be fine!

You were right, it is a fungal infection.. I was able to take her today, he said she's very heatlyh in every sense of the word.. Thank GOD, however she does have this fungal infection and he's started her on medication. It's a pill I have to give her twice a day, and in 7 to 10 days I have to return to see how much she's improved... If there's no improvment, or low improvment.. He'll recommend a shot.. and after that, I think the situation should be resolved..

So tell me, how's Reya doing?

why not the PROGRAM - it a one time deal (liquid based on the weight of the cat) not a 7-10 x2 ordeal. Might want inquire....

i thought Program was a flea treatment? when Pixel had ringworm [fungal skin infection] she had a topical anti-fungal cream, but it wasn't Program...
maybe the fungal infection is internal?

Based on the newest vaccine protocols endorsed by all 27 vet schools in the US and the AAHA, I would steer clear of Program ... this is an excerpt of a report on new vaccine guidelines:

"Program injectable - 6 month flea prevention for cats has been shown to be very
tissue reactive & therefore has the potential of inducing an injection site
fibrosarcoma."

Well, Program is what the vet gives me for mine, a double dosis and the whatitsname clears up in about a day. I took Reya this morning to the vet, and he said it was clearing up on its own and that he'd take a look at it in about three days. If it was still the same in three days he'll see what medication he gives her. He's really loath to give her anything, because though she's healthy, shi is so tiny

She was good as can be, but then she always is
