It is so difficult finding a gift for my 17 godson. I asked him on Thanksgiving and its like he is embarassed to give me suggestions!! Anyhow he mentioned he would like a game for his X box that involves shooting. As I have never used Xbox-Playstation etc I have no clue!!! He mentioned that he has the Halo games (which I don't know what those are). He doesn't play alot and I think he wouldn't like a violent game. He enjoys history and reading if that helps. Any suggestions would be great!!

Unreal Tournament might be a good game. It's a first person shooting game, it's somewhat similar to Halo and can be used with Xbox live. Doom might be good as well.

DOOM is kinda violent.. LOL Haven't played any other history type games though. More into adventure and racing.

XBOX 360 is the greatest gift but pretty expensive, plus games..

I don't think any more so than Halo, which was why I mentioned it. He likes shooting games.
Some people don't like gift cards, but for a teenager they are always perfect. You could go with a gift card to a game store, or you could get on of the Visa gift cards he can use anywhere.

Extremely generous. My brother got a hold of one on release day at Target ($299). He sold it an hour later on eBay for $600.

Some are up to $1000 on ebay right now, and for the console package which includes a couple games your looking at $2500.
I wanted to get my fiances son one for Christmas, I was going to get him the premium console which sells for $399. But if I can't get my hands on one for that by Christmas, then he is going to have to wait a bit. I refuse to pay for it on ebay!

Halo is somewhat hard to find your best bet is going to Best Buy to get it it will not be at Walmart b/c it's a shoot em up game. He might like 1942, it's a world war II game it puts you in the middle of D-Day and other important battles. Don't forget that these games not for children under the age of 17

New games he is least likely to have and that he may enjoy if he liked Halo...

World War 2 game "Call Of Duty II" - is a tip from my boyfriend Dan.

I was going to suggest Call of Duty as well. I know Earl has really enjoyed playing it on his PC. It's a FPS, but historically pretty accurate. Accurate enough that you actually have to RELOAD after the appropriate number of rounds. Some of the kiddies hate that because they are used to games like Halo and Doom where you can shoot forever and never reload.

Here's a description on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...games&n=507846

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I'm going shopping with my SIL next week and we will check out some games. She never buys anything over the internet!!!
My godson lives on a farm and has lots of things to occupy his time other than XBox thank goodness but too bad no Civil War Xbox games (or are there??) He is really knows quite alot about that era!!

There are no real civil war games for the XBox, atleast what I have seen personally. I know there are some for the PC, but they are strategic in nature. If he likes Halo (or any of the FPS games) on his console, my list of recommendations is below. For the most part (95% of the time) I am a PC gamer. I hate playing FPS's on an xbox or any other console for that matter. ANYWAYS... off to my list:

Doom3
Halo 2
Half-Life 2
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One
Call of Duty: Finest Hour
Battlefield 2 Modern Combat
Project: Snowblind
Unreal Championship 2

(whats funny is that most of these games are ported from the PC brothers... funny)

You may also think about getting him a magazine subscription to an XBox related magazine. Its cheap and its gives all year long.

My recommendations...

Gail, if he was asking for a shooting game he probably means any FPS (First Person Shooter) game. There aren't really any non-violent FPS games for the Xbox. I have an Xbox. Here's some that I think he would really enjoy:

Half Life 2 (SciFi)
Far Cry Instincts (SciFi)
Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood (WWII)
Call Of Duty: Big Red One (WWII)
Time Splitters: Future Perfect (SciFi)

If he's the kind of player that likes to invite a friend over, Brothers In Arms or Time Splitters would be an excellent choice because they both offer co-op play through the story mode.

For shooting games, I would recommend Halo or Halo2. Halo2 can be played on Xbox Live, which is LOADS of fun.

It's a sci-fi game, and in the single-player mode you are killing aliens rather than humans...they bleed blue and purple and orange. hehe Come to think of it, even in multi-player (you and your friends playing against each other), you are shooting at humanoid cyborgs rather than humans. lol Total sci-fi/fanstasy violence.
Oh, and the multi-player mode in Halo? Awesome. IMO, the best there is for a console.

I've never been that into shooting games, doom was on my PC when we purchased it but I couldn't work it out. I'd just have a look at the average price of games and heget a voucher or something
